Is all this within thread philosophy btw ?
Hell yes, I think you have thread philosophy down to a tee. Especially the £72 stickers. I thought it was just me: unable to find an aesthetically satisfactory "GB" sticker, I had my own made up.You have a lovely looking XJR too.

XJ6s really are fantastic, but in a world obsessed with fuel economy (my grandfather keeps talking about purchasing a new car with better fuel economy despite the fact he probably does 1000 miles/year) people don't want them. It's hard to stand a the pumps so often and pour large wedges of cash into the tank, I had many noodle meals trying to run mine as a student.
They are thirsty certainly, but no worse than a comparable Mercedes or BMW of their age.The Insta-MPG display showing 4 whilst gliding towards licence-losing speeds at a surprising rate, was always treated as amusement rather than the warning it ought to have been though.
I'm not saying I won't be back in a Jag because I certainly will, but just that I see how people can become fixated on fuel economy to the detriment of both enjoyment and overall cost. And it certainly helps us barge fans out.

I find the same thing is true of buying things with cash rather than with a card. I try to spend cash rather than use cards these days since that way I am much less likely to fritter away boggling quantities of money on placeless ephemerata that I don't even remember buying. Same thing, I guess.
I really think I must drive like a grannie though; mine rarely drops below 19-20 mpg. I was once overtaken by a man on a horse, but in my defence I was waiting to turn right...

Dammit that XJR is absolutely perfect. £2k with a brave haggle would have you a very lovely car indeed.
I can't believe there isn't something wrong with this car. From the research I did before buying the SL good straight 6 examples were £3k and v8s were at least that for a ropey one - if this is still here on Friday when money is passing through my account (legitimate) I may have to indulge.

This one looks good. Lots of history too and I think the seller has photographed all of it!

I have the money to buy it, but not to take care of it as well as it deserves

I've previously bought a nice Lucas white on black GB sticker from them.

Loving the jag talk.
I'd appericate a bit of input, do I stick with my x300 XJ6 manual or twist and get a x308 xjr?
I love the six but I sometimes wish it had (much) more poke, but a manual xj is something so different I also like the idea of getting it into tip top shape.

Love the idea of a manual XJ but the auto really suits the power and chassis set up of the XJR.
Flooring the gas pedal after a 50mph motorway roadworks stretch gets you into licence losing territory very quickly if you are not careful.

I wanted a 'GB' sticker like the classic German 'D' sticker, so I did it on a white oval with a black border in font DIN 1451.

With 110+ views per hour on that eBay advert I doubt it'll still be around. Surely that's far too cheap?!
