87k mile 500 at £3,400, quite a fetching colour combination http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...
Catching-up after a few days away, and back to that beauty. Good spot. The more I see of these, the greater the chance of one featuring on my driveway before too long. Love the colour too. Season's greetings to all.
ETA - there's something almost Lexus-like in that profile.

That could be as the subsequent Lexus looks more or less like a direct 'crib' of the W140, but uglier.Season's greetings to all.

Not sure if this has already featured, but it looks like a fairly tidy W124. It is in Luton though.

Back on the battery charging question with the E65, if I can get a 1 plug long extension lead and the battery charger under the bonnet but the bonnet would be ajar do we think this would be ok (left out side) if I could some how get something like sheet plastic to cover the gap (eg by taping it to the kidney grille and very bottom of the bonnet and then to the underside of the front splitter)? Or do we think 1 drive of 20-30 miles per week would be enough to maintain the charge?
I should probably make another thread for this instead of cluttering up this one!
Cheers

Has it got a knock on the NSF wing?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-750-IL-1999-103-000-...
Either way, a helluva lot of car there... worth considerably more in parts...

Ross. Glad to see that you're making such positive progress. What sort of area do you live in? I suspect that, unless it's really dodgy, the bonnet being left on first lock will make no difference at all and will be perfectly safe. However, if the battery's in decent condition, I'd have thought that one decent drive a week will be adequate to keep things in reasonable condition whilst you recover.
In the round however - as I've said before - if it were me I'd sell it to concentrate on simplifying my admin during recovery, and to give purpose to the research/hankering over what to replace it with.

I have a trickle charger that I don't use and you're welcome to it if you'll make use of it
It came with my E500 although it's a Porsche branded item. Looks like any old AC adaptor aside from the Porsche logo so don't get too excited. I can drop it round sometime or you can have someone pick it up
Drop me an email if you want it
All the best

Happily it's not described as a Rolls-Royce engine.

Ridiculous amount of vehicle for the price but I really don't like the dark coloured interior. IMHO these big barges look best with a pale leather to contrast with the dark exterior.
Now if it had green top dash, green carpet and everything else cream, it would be a very nice place to be indeed.
My preference is for grey leather. It's often derided as being a bit '80's', but I love it. Grey leather in a Mercedes W140...yum! Though beige or oatmeal looks great with a suitably woody cabin, but it must be tempered by the wood. Beige plastics and leather with no wood detailing to add contrast isn't a good look. The BMW E38 was actually home to one of the most heinous of all barge interiors, namely the 'Aubgerine' leather. Cunningly disguised as black leather in some photographs, it's actually a vile hue of purple. Grim.

There was similar in the Rover 75 (rare option) and I quite liked it!The BMW E38 was actually home to one of the most heinous of all barge interiors, namely the 'Aubgerine' leather. Cunningly disguised as black leather in some photographs, it's actually a vile hue of purple. Grim.

Here are the connectors I mentioned in my earlier post Ross...I put the connector onto some wire I had left lying around and then hard-wired that onto the battery in the car as you can see on the Daimler below, which then means I can put the boot floor back in place and just connect up via my wire each time it is left garaged:
Same setup on the E39 (which is even more of a pain to get croc clips onto as the battery cover thing is held down by 3 nuts):
Once you have the connector spliced in you can also knock up your own accessories. I have put a female cigar lighter socket on one for example, which means I can just add an extra 12v socket into the boot whenever needed. However of most interest to your needs is probably this extra long croc clip extension cable I made so I could connect up the mower which is parked around the corner from the garage:
The beauty of this (for you) is that you could shut the bonnet over the wire or thread it through the kidney grille before connecting. The main charger/240v bit can then stay safe inside in the dry and only 12v electrics are out in the elements.
