It would be a hell of a trip. Fly out (terror), drive back. How long do you reckon it would take to drive back from Greece? Are the Balkans ok these days?
Most of the Greeks I know avoid the Balkans if making this trip. It is an easy ferry ride from Patra (2 hours from Athens) to a bunch of cities in Italy (Bari, Venice etc ). 16 hours and around 200 euros for 2 adults and a small car with no cabin.Did someone mention a Ferrari....?

I've switched the direction steptronic works too so manual shifts are more rally car sequential (Now it's push away to go down, pull back to go up) - best mod I've made to the car I reckon!
BMW did themselves too across the range in 2001 for the 2002MY, by which time E38s had all been built. And a question regarding sport suspension on the E38. My 2000 750i swb has factory fitted M-sport fahrwerk, is that the same as the 740 Sport or Alpina? Mine is also non-EDC.
Also has flat black window trim and antrazite headliner but nowhere does it say its a 750 sport.
The mod itself is simple enough - pull the surround off, de-pin the central two wires, swap them and refit: http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/DZ/StepTronic.h...
You can do either side of the plug it shouldn't matter
EDIT: Stick your VIN into one of the BMW VIN decoders online and see what options it has ticked, I'll re-do my 740i Sport to compare

Speaking of which, I could do with a co-pilot this sunday/monday from Hamburg-London with some v12 lovliness.....
Do tell us more! I can't do it myself but what's the V12?!
ETA: the trip might fall through as my passport was sent to Germany for the transit documentation and hasn't arrived back yet!
In the blessed quiet times between falling asleep and returning tut'mill, I plump for something exactly like that when I decide that the Venn-lozenge is just a little too narrow between the F355 I don't own and the 456 I haven't got.

Chaps,
What's the consensus on early examples of the W211?
I've been given first refusal on a 53 reg (2003 or 2004 I think?) E220 CDI Automatic. Two owners from new, full non Mercedes history, 175,000 miles.
I've got it in my head that these are unreliable money pits? If so, I'll avoid like the plague! All advice and opinions very welcome!
Thank you in advance
No they are ace. There is a well documented problem with the Valeo radiators on some cars failing and letting water into the gearbox which is bad news but if it has lasted 175k miles I suspect it has either been fixed or has the other brand of Rad (Bosch ? I can't remember). Also check the brake pump thing (SBC?) has been replaced which again it will have been at 175k miles. What's the consensus on early examples of the W211?

Lordy that sounds nice. I'm sure a cheeky picture or two sat next to a barge would go down well here. ETA: the trip might fall through as my passport was sent to Germany for the transit documentation and hasn't arrived back yet!

Oil pressure looks a touch high for a warm engine as well, no?
Either way this is a good area to buy from, right on the borders of a very well-moneyed and retirement area. My parents are about 5 miles away, I could pop up and take a look next weekend as I'm heading over if anyone fancies it and needs a preliminary.
I quite like the look of this 300CE coming up at Anglia next month
[
It would need re-ambering, but could be a good buy for a couple of bags if it looks nice.

Equally interesting is the maroon 300CE - it was for sale in John Haynes showroom not long ago (at just under £5k). I had a nose at it while in there and it looked a very nice one. Just needed some leather seats. Either way this is a good area to buy from, right on the borders of a very well-moneyed and retirement area. I love the colour and the spec!
Seriously tempted to register to bid by phone, but I must resist, I must . .
Over the past week or so, we've had these sorts of messages:
We ought to meet up in a 'sad-men-off-the-internet' sort of way.
In all seriousness, would be good to look at each other's cars and talk st for an hour sometime.
Any appetite for a meet? Anyone planning to head to Bournemouth for the Wheels Festival? I'm going tomorrow.
Anyone around next weekend? Any thoughts or preferences for a location?
