A haggle (or further drop in price) would see this very close to thread budget. Market for a petrol, manual Volvo S80 may be small but it appeals to me http://www.cargiant.co.uk/Volvo/S80/details-711085...
It's at a car supermarket - chances of getting anything more than a token fifty quid off are remote frown Nice car though. Ran a 2.4 diesel for a year - comfiest seats ever! smile

Cargiant seem to knock a few hundred £ off cars that don't sell every week or so, that one has been reduced a few times and they can't be far off sending it to auction.

+£99 admin fee. Pathetic attitude.

Nice looking thing though, love that interior.
That's ok, because by an incredible fluke, you also impose a £99 admin fee when buying stuff. What are the odds!?

Just bought a tidy S60 for £1400

2.0 Turbo with 180 HP so not a rocket ship, but strong enough and has a distant 5 cylinder warble to it (yeah I was suprised too when I noticed 5 manifold runners). Autobox as well.

Its a 2004, 77k miles and in the last year has had:

Cam belt
discs and pads
new radiator
new headlamp bulbs
new windscreen wipers
seemingly 3 services for different things, one included change of AT fluid
couple of other bits n pieces done like 2 new rear tyres.

Body work is straight as an arrow, paint work in very good nick, underside looks good, drives straight, brakes straight, pulls strong, kicks down and changes gear smoothly. Its an SE with a few options I think. Electric memory and heated leather seats up front with barely a hint of bolster wear. Back seats look like new. No creaks, no rattles, just solid. Rain sensing wipers etc. There is even a cool button on the remote to put the lights on! (I know this is old hat now, but this is the first time I have had such cool fancy gadgets). Everything electronic still works as you'd expect.

The wheels are very scuffed mind but the only other let down is the mismatched front tyres which are both close to the legal limit. One is a Falken, the other a Yokohama, the Falken appears to have a softer sidewall than the Yoko so it looks a little odd on one side. Makes for some slighty squirrely movements on rutted road. Air Con probably needs a regas too, being mostly cool rather than ice cold.

But that aside, I cannot be happier with this thing. This is so much car for £1400. Heck, my dad just spent a grand more than that on a TV! I spent more on a fridge freezer and a washing machine!

I rides really well, you feel nicely isolated from the outside world. I like.

You neglected to mention the key Volvo attribute - the seats! They have to be a) comfy and b) the best you have ever sat in and c) see a).

Happy motoring!

If it had heated seats, and if I hadn't spent £2k on audio in my E280 I'd be tempted to swap - my perfect engine and colour!

BTW, to the owner, do you really find it whisper quiet at 70mph? I find road noise to be one of the weaknesses of the S124. It's really not that refined at high speeds.
To me it's lovely and quiet.... However the car I have to compare it against is my M3 cabrio with a fabric hood which is pretty much the least refined car when it comes to wind noise.... My view could be slightly blinkered!!

Bought a painting for the GF's birthday, it's not huge but pretty large. Didn't even have to put the seats down or remove the luggage cover! Such a good car the S124.

Can't you just switch your audio over? It's only speakers and a head unit right wink

No doubt they are comfy. More comfy than the seats in the civic because that has no lumbar support! I haven't been able to adjust them just so yet but I like that if you open the car with a particular fob, move the seat about, then drive off, that seat setup is saved to the key so the next time you unlock with that key the seat is positioned for you as you open the door. Magic.

Got a decent trip planned on the 12th, should be a good 300 miles so the mythological seat comfort shall be tested.

Speaking of lumbar support, I'm always quite surprised that the likes of BMW only offer electrically adjustable lumbar as a cost option. Surely cars like that should at least have manual adjustment as standard! My boss used to get around the problem by using a small cushion in his older BMWs.

VERY good stereo, too.

The kind of stereo that makes you wonder what BMW are playing at.

I can't tell how bad the rust on this 430 is, but it looks like a lot of 95k mile car for the money. It desperately needs the badges removing.

Handily, it looks like they've painted all the rusty bits a different shade of silver to help you. Looks proper kebab-shop spec.

Er, I can sort of see that now I am off mobile laugh

It's still cheap though, don't be so fussy!

Agree with all of the above!

Cool car with great luggage carrying capacity and build quality...too much wind noise at speed. Hence my wife's S124 E320 may be going up for sale on Ebay soon pending the outcome of a phone call that I'm expecting regarding an alternative Barge with a blue and white stylised aircraft propeller symbol on the bonnet in the next 10 mins. wink

My W124 has quite a bit of wind noise at speed. I don't mine as I like to know when I'm moving. I can see how it could appear unrefined in this regard compared to more modern machinery. Engine and tyres are inaudible.

I'm probably not the best person to comment as I have them on the e55, I think they look great on it. These days there are base model Audi's with bigger wheels. That 430 sits a bit higher so doesn't quite suit the wheels.
