Thanks. I think. They may have a point but I will, in that Canute-like way that infuriates them so much, continue to insist that I'm right.

My wife is driving the car for the first time today so I'll get a reaction later, but as she got in she said 'it's not a small car'. I really hope they come to like it; even after not much over 100 miles I love the little thing. Simple, really well-executed, stylish (here we go, the blokey-denial once again) and in fantastic condition.

Anyway, 0a, if it really does come to it, you get first refusal. However, I haven't told you what I paid for this excellent example!
I like to do my good deeds, as I did by taking the 500SL off you smile

^^^ I was just looking at that very one! Nice old bus, and with colours very 'of its time'!

(0a's Brown one).

Double budget, and only 1 picture posted 6 times, but this 107 SL looks nice.

Says 5995 on the site, but I'm sure when I went today (to look at something else) it had 4995 in the window.

Looks like a nice bus so far but there is an unsurprisingly noticeable drop in quality compared to The Tank. Ashtray and cupholder flaps in particular aren't great.
Are we still talking about the car here, or .....?
Very good!
That's a lovely pair, Harry.

And I'm not talking about cars or your good lady.

Corr! Love the rear centre arm rest Control panel! The kids would wee themselves with excitement if I had one of those! And handily it has leather seats so the wee would clean up easily. Jaguar have thought of everything.
Just what I was thinking, lovely motor.

Obviously we in this thread tend to be biased, but I've done the Victorian-dad thing of saying that as I pay the bills I get to choose the car! So far, I seem to have got away with it, but my wife returns tomorrow and will see it for the first time; wish me luck!
In the interests of openness I feel I ought to report progress. It has not gone well. My daughter now says she won't ever drive it. My wife cried when she saw it.rofl

These are early days though, and I'm optimistic.
That is one of the funniest posts I've ever read on PH!!!

No that is the earlier w116 450SEL with the 6.9L V8, the one above is a w126.

That red 840 from a page or so back is my dream E31, right down to the non-sport front bumper! Meanwhile this one's about to go cheap:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-BMW-840-CI-AUTO-BLUE/321794635719?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3D4a16266c82674bcb8a338acd7fb976c6%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26mehot%3Des%26sd%3D201378972356

I agree on the red one- lovely looking car.

There's something about the front end on the dark one that never looked right to me. The relationship between front wheel and bumper/wing in the first pic looks wrong. See that it's a cat C so may be connected.

I would guess the 'Cat C'ness was a front left smash which, judging by the shut lines in the bonnet and the way the popup headlight doesn't sit quite flush hasn't been repaired properly or to a good standard. A lot of car for less than £3k though!

Just think about what that money would buy you in terms of an e30. Those dodgy panel gaps would annoy me though
