I would still feel rather special being ferried round in the back of this, I think it looks fantastic in this colour with the pinstripe down the side.

Shame about the service gap.

I agree about the service gap - this is a car to check to see if the early and troublesome timing chain tensioners and plastic water pump impeller have been changed to the later, reliable items. It is a shame because other than that, it looks a lovely car. I particularly like the colour.

Not keen on the V70 and I don't need an estate. Browsing the classifieds and there doesn't seem to be much quick, comfy, 4 seats and around the £1500 budget jumping out at me.

May have to do some man maths and increase the budget.

Ah yes, the extremely rare twin-supercharged Super 8... Nice colours though.
And the very rare 5-seater! Agreed on the colour, looks the part.

I did have these on the radar but the rust puts me off. Was taking another look this morning for bang for buck I think its going to have to be a Saab. Now just to see if any Aero's come up at my price point. cool

Lower mileage. Better colour combo to my eyes and much better spec...worth a haggle.

Also very pleasant and yes the 19s are more visually appealing.

What's your view on the N/A 55 AMG vs. N/A 600? I miss having a V12 underfoot...

The N/A 600 in the pre facelift W220/W215 isn't worth the risk.

The N/A had cylinder deactivation which really kills the coil packs = ££££'s.
The twin turbo V12 is more reliable and the real world performance is night and day.

I'd take the bullet proof 55 AMG V8 over the N/A V12 any day, the performance is similar but the V12 is the smoother lump.

If you really want a V12 on a reasonable budget then i'd look at the M120 found in the W140 S600 / CL600. One of the truly great engines and should really be experienced.

It's a belter, but I don't like and couldn't live with the styling of the 140s. Would stick the M70/73 BMW unit I know well and have had experience of in three cases so far with little drama. Possibly time for an Eight, although they'r eno longer the conspicuous bargain they were compared with 215s at present.

600 biturbo is not without huge amounts of appeal, but they're twice as much to buy for a given mileage compared with a 5.8 (and directly comparable with the supercharged 55s, which again makes a great case for itself).

We all know they rust like old Lancia's but its a grand and if it isn't that rusty after 15 years its not going to suddenly rot away overnight. I had to weld half the sill on my (superficially excellent, 100k) E39 but not a thing on my 160k S210.

Holy st that's impressive.

How many of those miles did you do? Was it a taxi?

We bought it with over 600k already on it at ~8 years old.
Previous owner had it from new, did private hire work, mainly between bournemouth and heathrow airport several times a day.

It was on it's second gearbox but apart from that the car was original, only starting to suffer the usual W210 corrosion. The owner serviced it to schedule and said he even used asda diesel in it.

Interestingly, we bought his replacement car from him, this time a W211 cdi which only lasted 380,000 miles. He told us that if image wasn't important in his business he would just keep running W210's. He was not impressed with the W211 or his subsequent W212 AT ALL.
I'm waiting to get his phone call about his W212 to see how long that lasts.

Mini-barge lifted from the retro thread. Under-budget, but a few jobs to do should lift it into here.

Shame it is a catd - but pictures of damage do not look too bad and no history.

I feel a little sad to admit it, but I am unseasonably excited about my "exhaust consultation" tomorrow to disuses what I am looking for. It will be fabricated for fitting on Friday and hopefully I will be putting 800 miles on the SL over the weekend smile
