This is over the £1,500 budget but has a lot of recent work done, also getting rare in this condition...

I dunno which I fancy more - that V70 or Derin's scrumptious E320.
Hoping this is allowed as I didn't post it initially but it is me selling the V70 . I have it at £2300 now and if you need amy more info just ask.
Apologies if this isn't allowed and mods feel free to delete my post .
Steve
It's not your fault that every possible barge in the 1-5 range ends up on these pages!
Thanks Oa biggrin

I've just noticed this on Car and Classic:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C565095

How does one use a car as a driver?

It looks mostly shagged, but strangely compelling

i'm sure i read somewhere, someone recounting stories of old, including how Hunt complained about the car overheating on long runs as well as a a couple of them using the cars to get to european GP's with games including how far can you drive without taking your foot off the gas.

If that is Hunt's car buy it to say you have owned his car, but that will be well used and had a pretty hard life.

Since Hunt definitely hasn't driven it for well over twenty years, I'd say that it makes very little difference!

I'd love to have that car.

laugh True.

Whilst it's clearly in need of some work, I reckon a decent car with a story - as that one has - makes a rather appealing buy.

It has a great story, but (in the words of a Scottish friend of mine), it does look "proper fked".

great spec, though - almost the same as a 560SEC I had for a while (and that was similarly "proper fked" but hardly missed a beat in over a year!)

Exactly what about the James Hunt 560 SEC looks so bad?

When the advert says needs " Needs some bodywork repairs" you know it won't be simple or cheap, a lot of panels on those are double skinned and can be a nightmare to repair to a good standard. Classic place for those to go is the rear screen panel.

Hmm, good points.

I still want it though. I've always wanted a 560 SEC anyway

Totally agree - that's probably the first car this volume that has me salivating - if I wasn't mid-way (well, 10%) through a garage rebuild, and hence unable to offer it a dry berth straight away, and short of space, I would be phoning now about it and risk Mrs Stegel's wrath when it arrived on a trailer. It's a long time since Hunt last drove it, so if it's survived this far, the oily bits are not going to be the biggest challenge it faces.

Thinking about it, it was the older 6.3/6.9 models.

Maybe that one wasn't mercilessly thrashed, hehe.

Mini-barge lifted from the retro thread. Under-budget, but a few jobs to do should lift it into here.

Shame it is a catd - but pictures of damage do not look too bad and no history.
I may, allegedly, have made contact with vendor.

What was that I was saying only a couple of days and a few pages ago?!
This is in Boro, isn't it? If you need someone to go and have a look, it's only 45minutes from me. Would probably have to be next week, though.
Thanks Jonathan, that's a very kind offer - and I know it's a genuine one.

But, the car is sold already.

I wonder to whom . . . . . .

It's in a right old shabby state. In no particular order:

Missing headlamp wipers.
Broken grille
Front bumper from a pre-facelift car
Ill-fitting sunroof
Defunct telephone antenna in rear screen
Shabby wheels
Sagging SLS suspension
Stuck wireless antenna
Past paintwork (badge is on wrong)
Sun bleached walnut
Broken transmission selector wood trim (it has been yanked up rather than slid forwards after removing the coin tray)
Wrong steering wheel
Busted passenger seat cover fixings (so goodness knows what the driver's side is like)

Photos always flatter and it doesn't look wonderful in those photos.

Some of those things don't really bother me, although it would be nice to find a perfect one.

The steering wheel stuck out from a mile though.

ETA I only skimmed the advert before, but from what it says the MOT expired in June?

Yup. I'd say that's about right.

Things that caught my eye were:
Back suspension
Paint all over looks poor
Bonnet and front bumper don't fit
I bet most panels will need some work
Interior looks scruffy
I bet the seatbelt butlers don't wotk
Vendor mentions it needs tlc
Etc

But... It is James Bloody Hunt's old car. Somebody please get it bought!!!
Having said that, the one I bought was advertised as spares or repair and i ran it for a year ok!!! It did leak quite badly though!!

Gentlemen of the Thread, if you would indulge me for a moment.

I was searching for an F01 in an interesting colour and came across this little beauty. Now admittedly it is a tad outside thread budget, however we all know where it's headed. It's just a question of when...

I don't think I have ever seen a BMW this well specified, the spec is... unbelievable.

Jesus. £80k in depreciation for 20,000 miles in three years. Four quid a mile BEFORE fuel, insurance, tax etc.

Thanks, Hornetrider, I feel so much better about all the money I spent on the full mechanical refresh of my E39 now.
