2 bornite purchases, congratulations chaps!
Thanks tobinen - and coincidentally both cars will be Northern Ireland bound, too!!

maccrackenj - I might need to pick your brains on local specialists - the car is going to live near Newcastle - I'll drop you a pm.

Definitely!

I'll swap my fleet for yours for a week (but only if you include the 550).

Deal?

More reliable and much much more performance than those earlier cars.

I know both are sold but just wanted to show that they are out there within thread budget.

Even as a car buyer with a decent set of stones on me, that pair are scary. I'd be spending a bit more I think as that plate / paint job / 6 year old 1000nm dynoplot are red flags. Would be fun until it broke mind you.

Added a neat gadget to the 55k tonight - plugs into the 3.5mm jack and is a little black box that creates a wifi zone in the car that you can share streaming music and YouTube / iTunes to. £30 all in and solves the problem of more modern media in an older car.
Wimp wink

I'd take the Almandine Black one but would pass on the silver one for similar reasons to you.

That website is a bit of a shocker!

Haha! The 550 will be in London for the foreseeable as I'm planning a couple of continental trips. The only cars on the road at home are the s124 and the wife's 5 Series: not nearly as interesting!

As an aside, are there any Ph type meets/events this sunday in the south East? Im over and keen to get the 550 out for a run!

Not particularly barge related, but does anyone else have a problem with the Car and Classic website when outside of the UK? I can't see it on my laptop, desktop, phone, tablet etc. Just get a white page of nothingness. Which is a shame because they often have a lot of interesting stuff...

Thanks for all the good wishes on the 190e everyone.

Was it only 2 weeks ago that the SEC was collected and I came on here saying I was definitely (i) going to hold out until at least Christmas before getting another car and (ii) whatever I did buy would be black with black leather?

Well, I lasted barely 2 weeks. Pathetic.

Now I'm back into the old cycle of complaining that I don't do enough miles to keep 1 old car running properly, and having 2 is just daft (never mind 3) - so I sell up and get back down to 1 old car + 1 modern, then back up to 2, then 3, then down to 1, then back up again, and on and on it goes!

As Oa said above - it really is a weakness. I'd say it was a deep psychological affliction.

But, really, a 2.6, Sportline, auto, in Bornite with leather? Faced with that specification, what was I supposed to do?

The hope is that Mrs mccrackenj will take a shine to it (unlike CdG's brood) and use it to ferry the MIL around on Saturdays. That would get it a good 30-40 miles usage each Sat. Wifey got quite fond of the previous 190e (even christened it Dorothy FFS) so hopefully same will happen this time.

Just hope it doesn't clash terribly with the 260E when they're parked side-by-side. Willow Green with Bornite? Apple and blackurrant? Well, it'll make a change from the sea of silver and grey on the rest of the street.

S124 arrived this afternoon - and it seems pretty lovely.

Being a 12v diesel, it's a slow old thing, but it is perfect for wafting around in - feels solid and well built, and no issues yet. Electric aerial and sunroof both surprisingly fully operational!
with pics this time:

What a great looking thing. Enjoy. I saw a facelift Bornite S124 diesel a couple of months ago outside my 'local'. Such an unusual colour, couldn't take my eyes off it.

Wowzers. Subtle it ain't.

Personally, I'm not keen on the sport bumpers on r129s. I think it makes them look too bulbous. The standard ones look much cleaner to my eye.

I'm not sure if there's anything more formal, but I'm certainly up for a meet, ideally to the West or South of London. I'd really like to see your car. I'll be in the newly-washed and very shiny 190, but I doubt you'll have much trouble keeping up!

That's certainly bold. Bit too 'look at me' for my tastes, but I can see the appeal.

I'm about 40 mins from Gatwick airport, and happy to travel.

There are a few threadists in the Surrey-ish area, and quite a few near me around Farnborough, so we might be able to rustle up a crowd. I suspect you'll find the M3 roadworks extraordinarily frustrating in a 550.

That would be nice- as you know the area, if you can think of a suitable spot to meet (and know of any other guys about) that would be pretty cool....

The new gadget sounds good, can you send me a link please?

Cheers,
C
Or post for all of us lurkers too pretty please smile
It is all hidden in the glovebox and is fit and forget, as my iPhone connects to it automatically. I had a bit of fiddling to set it up via my phone so that it had a static IP but I called the uK based seller and he sent instructions. Basically it creates an Airmusic zone that iPads / iPhones / android phones can connect to and whatever would normally come out the speaker comes out the box via a 3.5mm cable, that you can then plug into your Aux IN.

Ideal for older barges that don't have USB / bluetooth etc.
