Yes but I will still be sad to see it go...and a little worried that we'll have no 'Estate option' now. But going to someone knowledgeable about these cars which is good.

I can reveal now (I didn't want to say before) that there were 163 watchers at the end and well over 2000 views. So, I think any owners of these here can be assured that they are certainly sought-after these days.

(I was bloody worried when I saw a zero feedback bidder suddenly pitch in! I forgot to put something in the description to stop that kind of bidder.)

Looks absolutely lovely, although white wouldn't be my choice of a 124 that contrasting sacco is most delectable.

Just to fire off your OCD, the bumper in that first shot looks like it isn't quite hanging straight...
Yeah, I noticed that just after I took the pic! mad

Might see if I can adjust.

The thing is the car already had new front wings put on before I bought it and I think they're "pattern" ones unlike the ones on the green estate. So, a few of the shut lines are a little out at the front.

I'll see if I can make the bumper sit better though.

Great result on the auction Derin - that will be a great car for the winning bidder.

I just noticed that your CE wears a Cumbria registration - not sure if it's on original dealer plates but I'm guessing it would have been supplied new by Patons of Carlisle. A great old family dealership as was and where we bought our first W124 (Willow Green) and latterly an LE 190e (Bornite no less).

Pointless trivia I know but I like these little connections.

Cheers dscam.

I think the CE spent most of its life in the N.E. So, that would fit with your findings perhaps if the first owner was in Cumbria. The supplying dealership, according to the service booklet, was Cragside Newcastle upon Tyne though.

Can you still obtain the registration history from DVLA for a fiver? I've done this with my cars and the results always are interesting.

That is a good result on the auction and, as you say, reassuring for those of us who own one of these cars. Re zero bidder feedback, I seem to recall I sold my 126 went to a zero or low feedback bidder and it couldn't have been an easier transaction: he arrived when he said he would, gave me the price in twenties and left with the car.

I'm about 40 mins from Gatwick airport, and happy to travel.

There are a few threadists in the Surrey-ish area, and quite a few near me around Farnborough, so we might be able to rustle up a crowd. I suspect you'll find the M3 roadworks extraordinarily frustrating in a 550.
Sorry to be missing this, but I'm S124 barging in France on the annual vacances.

Congratulations to the bornite boys and to Derin for getting a decent wedge!

I'm on the doorstep of Gatwick but lacking an old Merc - just the old(ish) D2 Audi. I'm on sprog watch tomorrow though....

Good purchase, It's my old car!

I bought It direct from the Insurance company and had It repaired myself.

Some pics of the damage below and when I sold It the buyer gave me an extra £20 because I'd under described it's condition, It was really nice.

Pretty sure that you can Jonathan: form v888. Took about 8 weeks last time I did it at the turn of the year...

I'm keeping an eye open for a Citroen C5 3.0 HDi with massaging driver's seat. I can only find one V6 diesel for sale (a 2.7 in Shrewsbury) and it doesn't have that option!

They must be incredibly rare.
I've just traded one of these In to the BMW dealer in Bristol. It's probably been moved on to the trade by now, but it was a fine car.

Hi B4bby

What a small world, this thread, retro rides and Mercedes-190.co.uk must be inhabited by the same small band of saddoes all posting in different sites under different names; we all keep running into each other!

Aren't you the chap with the absolutely lovely 300TE-24 with brown leather?

I was just reading your post on the 190e site about you buying the car at auction and fixing the damage.

Do you mind if I pm you sometime? I just want to draw up a work list of everything it's going to need when I get it home.

Between yourself and Andy it looks like it's well on its way to being sorted but I want to get everything else it needs done in 1 go, e.g. any fluids still needing changed, any suspension or drive-train components that are due for replacement etc.

Excellent work on the purchases chaps! Bornite is such an excellent colour and surely worth a 50% premium over less magnificent shades. wink

The S124 needs re-ambering though. Must admit I'm fancying a set of 8-holes (as originally speicified) for mine.

On the subject of colour, where's the best lace to get touch-ups (body and Sacco)?

I got mine from the local dealer. About £8 each.

This morning I can't stop looking at this. Have no need for it but think it looks wonderful. At £1250, just as well its at the other end of the country...

Exactly. If there isn't a long drive or a flight involved you're doing it wrong. Don't be a pussy!

yes

He's absolutely right. It's not barging unless travel cost is a significant percentage of purchase price. Fact.

Yes, but your BMW stood a reasonable chance of making the return journey hehe

I would probably have Disco TD5 as a runaround if they weren't so sodding unreliable. Yes they are rubbish and no, I would have no intention of going off road - it would just serve as an antidote to mouth breathing drivers and therefore make my travels less stressful.

First drive I did in my barge was Edinburgh to London.

It's practically compulsory.

One of the great joys of buying a car is the collection road trip. I love a nice P38 too and that one sounds good to me.

A £650 '77 Citroen CX from a snowy Glasgow back to Brighton is my best effort so far.
