Is this underpriced by someone who doesn't know these cars? Or is it a shed? I can't tell and it's a long way from me. I resolved this morning that I'd like a w124 coupé (I know, a c124), preferably an early one, 3.0litre, in smoke silver.
Certainly has potential IMO, but would have to be seen. Plus points for me would be cruise and aircon, if working.

-Pattern wings
-Worn steering wheel
-Number plates
-Antenna
-Mats
-OS headlight wiper blade

Must have had the diamond cut wheels refurbished recently. Can't see any milking.
Seller states 5 speed, car has the 4 speed.
Bit of rear screen delimitation, too. And a missing driver's side headlamp blade. But then it's only £2.3k.

The 560SEL we had on here a few weeks back with the red velour; excellent work if you can get it.

Do people mind about this since the OEM ones are so proned to rust?

Pattern wings will rust eventually as well, I think the objection is more that pattern wings are generally cheaply made and don't fit as well as the OEM ones, but they still look better than rusty wings.

It's the fit, as mentioned above. They look all wrong around the indicator and at the meeting with the 'a' pillar. Plus, a good paint job costs 2 grand. A pair of MB wings costs £450. Pattern wings maybe £200. So it is either spoiling the job for a ha'peth o'tar or it is a crap job: either way, irritating. Anyway, the genuine ones are not that prone to rust. Most are over 20 years old now.

I am finding myself obsessed with this green coupé: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-MERCEDES-BENZ-E-CLA...

This is what I can see that puts me off.
- old phone aerial in the rear screen
- Diavia air con system
- cracked piping on centre armrest
- model designation in wrong place
- crack in black plastic boot handle (do this and the previous item indicate a bad paint job?)
- er, er, that's it...

But cast your steely glaze over it V12 AMG and tell me what I am missing. And I like the colours, OK?

Would a facelift car have had the 15 holes? I thought all came with 8 holes after 94. Love the interior colour (apart from the wrong colour mats; some nice dark brown ribbed ones in there and you'd be jammin')

Jesus. You know there's a bubble in the final stages of inflation when some cheeky sod tries that on at £10k.

Just curious, what does the CDV actually do and what's the problem with it? I think I have it on my Z4 3.0Si.
I have an LS1 engine/box from a Camara in my Cobra Replica, GM had a similar thing, they intentionally introduced a restriction in the clutch fluid pipe to prevent mechanically unsympathetic drivers banging the clutch out and smashing the plate against the flywheel - in essence it just slows the fluid down enough to give a cushioned effect when releasing the clutch quickly (introduces clutch slip when none is wanted!!!).
Took a 6mm drill bit to resolve that one ;-)

Jim
Exactly this - it's basically a little widget in the clutch line which slows the fluid movement to stop jerky clutch engagement. Fine if you're a bit ham-fisted, but a pain if you're a skilled helmsmith. biggrin

Some excellent pictures here on an E46, but looking on RealOEM it's near-identical for an E85 as well.

Centre console cubby box roller-top missing?

Leather needs total renovation?

Personally have only ever seen one that didn't have some degree of rear screen delamination...because the rear screen had been replaced. I think they cost about £500?

It's cheap but needs to be seen.

I'm not surprised you like the colours - they're brill! Green and tan really works - I'm biased because I have it on my 190.

In addition to what you've noted:
Looks like the electric aerial may not retract.
Bumper scuffs.
Driver's door sacco looks slightly 'off' (although I note that they can often look like that but are actually fine).
The way the seatbelts hang makes me suspect the butlers don't work.

So, really all just the usual stuff you'd expect to see on a car that age.

As you know, you'd need to budget for the aircon not working as they hardly ever do without money being spent and the vendor would probably mention it if it works well.

I find the lack of glovebox on the airbag-equipped 124s a bit of a nuisance because there's only so much other space for the detritus that seems to accumulate.

Does £4.5 seems slightly rich? Regardless, there's lots to like there.

I don't think £4.5k is too bad given that the colours are fantastic, it's a coupe, and it has relatively low miles with the powerful engine. If I could find a 4 door version I would be very happy with that indeed!

I've checked other cars since posting, and that seems to be the going rate.

On the basis that every car you ever buy (ever), seems to need 2 grands worth of work as a starter, our barge habit verges dangerously close to spending 'normal' amounts of money on cars.

Nevertheless, we still get the interesting ones, so I think overall we win.

Maybe. Just don't ask my wife for her opinion.

Do I dare ask the wife? When I still have a mortgage, why would I spend money on a fourth car? Just what is lacking about my r129, s124 and w201?

Anyway, here's a low miles Jap import E430 saloon within thread budget that doesn't look like it needs too much tinkering to be very right indeed. I bet these are superb cars.

There's no depreciation though CDG... (etc).

Rather above budget (though no price is quoted)... this must be the ultimate W124. I am almost crying with desire (and I don't even like the coupes that much normally).

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C644202

When I become 'rich' how much will I have to pay for this? Fantastically 1980s (AMG must have got hold of some early W124s as this is 1988).

(I looked for 1-5k barges but got distracted this evening!)

Must be a scam ad, surely http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

The bottom of the doors do look like a slightly different shade to the rest of the car though! 111k miles, £2,595 of modern looking V8 Jag (according to the ad)

95k miles 540, looks to be in great condition. The seller claims he will keep it if it's not sold by the end of July but the ad's still up.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Perhaps time for an offer on the £2.5k asking price? Perhaps a nice car, but the market for old, thirsty, non-classic 4 door cars is very limited indeed.

I've been lusting over that for a week or so. A similar one on an 'S' plate went for £1450 about a month ago, so this is still a grand over priced I reckon.

Still tempted mind.
