I just took a call from the garage regarding items that are needed for the SL's MOT. Power steering pump, power steering pipe (from the pump?), front suspension arms as well as the exhaust that is awaiting some parts. Hmmm, annoying.

Are you going to get new parts? I guess you'll have to for the suspension arms. If you want to pm me your chassis number, I'll see what I can find in the way of pump and suspension arms. It won't be as horrific as you fear.

What is it with the sudden surge of low mileage W123 230Es? I suppose not many examples of the 280e came in by comparison with the four-potters.

That does look good. Everyone and their brother has a W124, so might as well go for something a bit different.

Winter pocket rocket barge. Seems like a lot of car for the money.

That's really nice. These early A4s were genuinely good quality cars and true to Audi's build quality (at least in my family experience).

A nice colour, leather, 4wd, and a six cylinder engine for very little money indeed - and it looks like it's in great condition from the photos. A great find.
Wow. Really like that. Great find. Where's my phone!

'Part' service history and history of similar cars going for a lot less probably.

Also, I must admit this particular ad pings several pet hates of mine all at the same time.

- 'Final reduction!'
- 'No offers!'
- 'First to see will buy!'
- 'If it doesn't sell I'll keep it!'

rolleyes
'If it doesn't sell I'll keep it'. Surely if you don't sell something you do in fact end up keeping it, by default, lol!

I think that is supposed to discourage people phoning up offering half price or less, it probably doesn't work though.

Thankyou R129, that offer really is appreciated. I think I am going to retrive the car (with exhaust fixed) and put it into my regular garage for an assessment. I was hoping for a quick MOT so I didn't have to make two visits, but if there is work to be done I would prefer Eric (ex MB) to do it. I will see if I can find the chassis number in the meantime.

The steering pump was not a particular surprise. Another item I failed to mention was that they found the fuel filter was leaking, which is very disappointing as this was replaced several months back - apparently it's the middle of the filter itself, and not the joint to the fuel lines. It was a Mann fuel filter from ECP which I purchased after a quick browse suggested it would a better quality item.

The joys of owning old cars eh?

At least (touchwood) the faithful, rusty W124 soldiers on only needing regular fuel and oil top ups!

The 560SEL we had on here a few weeks back with the red velour; excellent work if you can get it.

It's grey. It's all grey.

And overpriced.
Good find. I like these and would have that. They really do feel 'bulletproof'

Same seller also has this though...

Completely wrong, of course.

White, no leather, 6 cylinders.

And a manual gearbox.

I want to drive it.

I also added tough foam seat tubes into the front seats (they go inside the springs at the front) to make them a little less springy and more comfortable and offer more support. These are genuine MB parts available specifically for the W126 seats. Part number a1269142215.

Nice.

That's lovely. Its Sport spec too so 18" wheels and S8 suspension, recaro seats and that lovely 3 spoke sports wheel.

Very very tempting if I wasn't thinking about an SL 500 R129.....

The ad has a fantastic list of things that have been done.

I really enjoyed the 800 miles in my 300E this weekend - the only thing that slightly ruined it was the auto (as much as I like it around town, long distance, higher speed work doesn't work with a crude 4 speed auto).

I've got pretty good at controlling it via the auto, but would be interested in a manual with this engine (the 300 engine needs revs to get moving).

I think the parking brake would wind me up no end. I wouldn't mind another gear though!

There's something delightfully naughty about a big barge with a manual box though.

You can't argue with a V8 Caddy at this money.

Not strictly barge relevant, but a good new road trip site here: http://www.northcoast500.com/home.aspx and the map here http://www.northcoast500.com/interactive-map.aspx
