If you do look at W220s, make sure it is a 53 - 06 car, they are the only ones worth considering.

What if you came across a nice early car with the m112, still too risky? They have crossed my mind more than a few times.

It was going so well until we got to the boot hehe

RE the 210, never heard of "Avantgarde select" and like many of us Im a bit rain man on the specs of these old barges. Learn something every day!
Debadged with an axe.

Like the plate though!

Cheap on paper, but in reality you can buy a nice car for £2k. Or a least one with a much nicer body and badge.

What's the difference between the engine in that car and this? The 0-60 times are quite different.

Haha! Couldn't see that on my phone. A dent fixer will sort that no problem smile

FOR 3K WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?
£2k??

Just noticed my ex is back on the market. It's a good one, same price, and seemingly a far better example than the one posted, although it's tenure with the new owner was brief.

LS400 is the better car.
I went to see this last week.

On the way home I said to my wife "That was a good car 1 owner ago".

Bubbling on both doors just above the silver trim (about 2" dia.), needs 3 new tyres (2 rears and a completely bald spare) and the aircon is goosed (ie. not even trying - could be a regas but at this price point I'm not prepared to gamble).

Spent a bit more (£4200) and today took delivery of a 1 owner XJ6 with a wad of receipts from Jag main dealers an inch thick. 94k on the clock, receipts for stuff like wiper blades from the dealer and P6000s with pots of tread all round. Very chuffed.

Edit - obligatory photo;

Early W220s rust; Just like W210s. The last facelift with the MOST Comand also includes lots of electronic changes to make them more reliable from that side of things.

Regarding the M112, I don't think it's an engine that suits the W220 personally. If you're doing miles then get a CDI, otherwise the M113 500 is the only option for a good reliable barge. If you want performance, M113K or M275 bi-turbo.

In summary, an early W220 with a M112 under the bonnet would have to be VERY cheap and VERY clean to be worth considering.

A rather nice-looking S210, not many tick boxes left unchecked.

That will make a good work horse for someone.
I personally feel £2000 is the ceiling price for a car like this now which has generous mileage on it.
I'm glad you said that about the cost. I opened the advert expecting it to be for sale in the 1500-2500 bracket. It looks nice, though not a great colour, but 3k seems high to me.

Fantastic, how are you finding it (eg the drive, anything to fix on it), and more pictures please!

I was feeling a bit glum, so I just started with a blank sheet of paper and began listing Things That Are Not Vectras.

That went quite well, and the list was pretty long. So I felt a bit better.

Here's the thing. I then cross-referenced the new list against my list of Things I Have, and therein lay true satisfaction. Every single line item on Things I Have also appeared on the Things That Are Not Vectras list.

Imagine my joy! Back to work with a spring in my step.
Genius. Having just spent a day in Milton Keynes, you've cheered me up no end

That looks really odd. Like the wheelbase is about a foot too short for the body.

If you can suppress the feeling that you have plagiarised me, you can do a similar exercise with Places That Are Not Milton Keynes and Places To Which I Go.

Evidently your result will not be quite as comprehensively positive as mine was, but it should at least put your one grim day in context.

S500. One of us has bought from this guy before, yes? He was OK, I seem to recall?

Anyway, he knows how to present cars:

They did a LWB and if I recall correctly, the extra length wasn't in the rear doors but behind them.

That was Walter Tresser's conversion:

Like all Audis, they have along front overhang, since all of the engine is ahead of the front wheels. I always liked the V8. It struck me as quite architectural in its styling.

47 bids with no mileage (presume high) or details yet. Does look very nice though.

Anyone with a 124 with rusty wings? This may be of some use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-New-Genuine-NOS-MER... Nothing to do with me and the usual disclaimer.

My dad has decided he's interested in a 500SL or SL500 (or maybe 600) f the R129 variety.

It'll be his first foreign car since about 1985 (that was his only one - an Alfasud) and he's as apprehensive as only an old conservative can be.

He's willing to spend a fair bit more than thread limit if he goes ahead so I will update if he goes for it.

When I was a child he wouldn't have considered a German car so this is something new. When he was buying his XJS my mother suggested an SL but he laughed it away. So this is progressive for him.
