Very good indeed.
As some might know on here from the lounge I was burgled on Wednesday and was completely rinsed out including one of the keys to my 3 series, the car had to go in for new locks, control unit and keys.
I asked for a 5 door courtesy car as I've got a little 3 year old lad.
I got a new MINI cooper 5 door and it's simply brilliant, 1.5 3 cylinder turbo, it sounds great has enough performance but my god does it go round corners well, I genuinely can't remember the last time I had so much fun in a car and have had a few that are good drivers cars.
This car is an absolute hoot and I don't want to give it back, it looks a bit challenging but that matters not when you're behind the wheel.
A cooper S must be awesome.

I'm a mad petrol head and had plenty of exotics.. My wife has a new Mini (3 door) and have to say its one of the best cars I've ever driven. Same comments as above, interior is amazing place to be and the sports seats are amazing (half leather). It's making me want one myself, she's getting fed up of my taking her car all the time.
We recently picked up a Cooper 5 door for my wife, and although I'm not keen on the looks, it really is a cracking car.
As you say, the engine is superb and definitely capable of surprising some supposedly quicker cars. The economy is a pleasant surprise too.
I also think its all the better for having the smallest wheel option. Ours has the basic 15s, and there isn't masses of grip which makes it great fun to drive even in this weather. In fact, I kinda prefer it to my own M135i in some ways.

We went from a 320i to a bog standard R53 Cooper (non S) and to this day look back on that MINI as the best of our (admittedly unspectacular) fleet.
For those of us whose driving is constrained by traffic flow, traffic calming, speed limits, parking restrictions and the like outright go is less important than the 'whizz factor'.
Glad to hear the modern versions are still a hoot.

It is, indeed, a fantastic steer..
Shame it's gopping.
It genuinely looks huge on the road too. Even the new mini was first introduced lots mentioned how it was so much bigger than the original mini. So much so that it shouldn't be called mini! This new one now makes the original new mini look, err, mini!Shame it's gopping.
It's a shame it's so ugly as I'd be very tempted to get one as a daily when our old bus dies, but just couldn't shell out my hard earned for such a munter. Even though design is a subjective subject the MINI gets widespread condemnation, with good reason. Doesn't stop them selling well though

It is! A cooper S must be awesome.
My wife is on her second successive Cooper S now - her current one is 3 months old - and she, and I, think they are awesome drivers cars.
I don't need a blistering 0-60 or high top end, what I need is a car to be moderately quick but with brilliant handling to have a lot of fun and the Mini delivers.
Only downside with my wife's Mini is that she rarely lets me have a go!

So they have a setting that removes the suspension completely and locks the diff to make it understeer like buggery?
I'm rather otu of touch with MINIs. What is the engine in these; is it an in-house effort or another Peugeot lump?
In house, so depending on how you look at it, either half a 3.0 straight six, or very similar to the i8 engineI'm rather otu of touch with MINIs. What is the engine in these; is it an in-house effort or another Peugeot lump?

As a r56 jcw owner, that's cringe worthy in the extreme. Totally left cold by the looks of the f56, interior is better I believe, but just can't see me upgrading at any time to the newer version.
My MX5 says "hello" on the radio display when I start it. Very odd.
