RE: Land Rover Discovery Sport: Driven
Discussion
Honestly, where are all these affluent people that can shell out over 40k on basically a piece of underpowered st ? They must exist, unless most are up to their eyeballs in debt ?....By the way I own a 25 year old 'classic' BMW and 3No houses.

LandRover "sells" plenty of Evoques which are a similar price. The vast majority are acquired on finance though. I don't know if it's in this thread or elsewhere, but apparently X3's are on close to a year leadtime.

I specced an SE X3 up with a few options, Prof media, dab, pano roof, adaptive xenons, Harman audio, heated front and rear sport seats, reverse camera and a couple of other little things and it was £42,000 for the 20d xDrive with the 8 speed auto I don't know if it's in this thread or elsewhere, but apparently X3's are on close to a year leadtime.
I was expecting the usual £8k+ off that, but all the ringing round in the world struggled to be £3500 off, and then I was told I would be looking at Sept 2015 delivery as a minimum!
For a start, I could not spend £40k on a 2 litre diesel, just doesn't seem right, and there is no way I am waiting 9 months or more for a car.
There was only 3 cars with close to the above spec out there, I called about all three and by the time I had spoke to them the next morning to say 'yeah' they had all sold.
One went up on BMW AUC at 10am Monday and I bought it by 10.15am, and that was missing the Harman Audio, but I can fit a better sound system so not an issue, oh and the wheels are a bit 'meh' but I can always put better wheels on.
But these things are selling fast and for many the appeal of 45mpg of the 2 litre diesel is more appealing than 35mpg from the 3 litre diesel.
Why? Because they don't do the maths or the purchase can be 'justified' with 'what I save on fuel each month.'.

Because you can't buy diesel on credit :-)Why? Because they don't do the maths or the purchase can be 'justified' with 'what I save on fuel each month.'.

I've sat and kicked the tyres of of a couple of them at gatherings but didn't realise they were at the dealers now for public test drives. Must get myself along to my local dealer then.
Not sure when they'll be at dealers. My access to one was work-related, so it still had full-camo on. I don't work for JLR though, so I'm not biased (much)!daytona365 said:

Yeah I wouldn't want one. I don't like the fact it has a 4 cylinder, transversely mounted with Haldex 4wd and is essentially a coffee morning woman's car. Also Kudos for saying "3no" rather than simply "3". Architect?Edited by daytona365 on Wednesday 17th December 00:14

Saw three pass me whilst I was queuing to leave the M5 at Cribbs Causeway this evening. My reaction to the first was of being slightly taken back by how staid it looked, perhaps because it was on smallish alloys. Interestingly, presumably because of the press-blitz none of the cars were wearing any disguise - indeed the Discovery badges were visible. By the time the third passed, I got it, and will press my Freelander 2 owning Dad to register an interest & blow my inheritance....

The cars have been presented to the public at dealers and other events, so there's no need for any camouflage anymore. Unfortunately, it looks even more staid inside...

What 7 seater has a big boot with the 3rd row up? The much bigger Q7/Disco etc or even the SMAX have no boot with them up!
The answer to your question is the GL.But it's in another magnitude concerning size and price.

The Discovery Sport's going to sell like absolute hot cakes. The thing I still don't get is the disconnect between LR's recent sales success and customer service feedback...
