Agreed. After having an S1 Elise then an S2 Exige I recently went out in a friends Evora and it is simply sublime.

I agree, it's outrageous.

Next thing those dirty Huns will be getting their engines into Morgans.

It's the end of the Empire I tell you.

So thiscocks and devonpaul when you have a minute drop into a mechanical engineering lecture at Imperial or Warwick and ask how many would like to develop new engines for Aston Martin.
That should rub the smug from you both. PH's new comedy act cock & paul.

I don't like the idea of AMG engines in an Aston Martin either but the existing V12 is currently built in Cologne so I can't really see how that is any better.

At least the Aston is still designed and built in Britain. That's about all you can hope for these days and it's still better for the UK to buy an Aston over a Porsche or Merc, wherever they get the engines from. So I say carry on as you were!

I think Aston have it right already. They build big comfortable GTs. I do hope that this isn’t exchanged for a bone shattering fidgety experience. Mind you maybe this wasn’t always the case. Whatever I think it’s how they should stay.
A great drive maybe, but Lotus is still a noisy uncomfortable experience in comparative and absolute terms.
Are you being serious? Have you driven either an Aston or a Lotus?

I've owned both, an Exige, Evora and a V8 Vantage.

The Evora was like a magic carpet. Better than the Vantage, better than my old Range Rover Sport!

Great move for Aston. The new Vantage could be phenomenal

I wonder why nobody on here insists on drinking British wine, tea or coffee ... scratchchin

Other nations don't think so insular.

Then ask how many of those same people would like to fund the development of these new world beating engines out of their own pockets and at a significant loss. Oh, not so many hands showing now eh!

BTW, I've seen the "new" AML engines, they are gonna be ace!! ;-)

Interesting that you think Lotus cars ride is bone shattering/fidgety considering my Esprit is super smooth and refined, the Evora I drove was also beautifully smooth.
Every German car I've driven or been in has felt like they replaced the springs with wooden blocks, plus they have put ultra low profile tyres on oversized wheels which further ruins the handling and makes them jittery and want to tramline.

Not so ironic, perhaps, as you say 'anything German and with 4 wheels' in your profile

???

Great move for Matt and perhaps understandable given the changes at Lotus (which I think are positive) but after 27 years perhaps its time for a new challenge....

Whilst a blow for Lotus they do have strength in depth - with Gavan Kershaw now stepping up to the plate I don't think we should be too worried.

"Gavan Kershaw, Technical Manager for Lotus Motorsport and who has been at Lotus for 26 years, assumes the additional responsibilities for dynamic attributes and evaluation for Lotus cars. Gavan has a very strong ‘track record’ in developing such icons as the Lotus Exige in 2000, the Lotus Elise S2 in 2001, the Lotus Exige S2 in 2004 and all of Lotus Motorsport’s cars since 1999, including the now legendary Lotus 2-Eleven."

What Justin220 said. I was lucky enough to own an Evora S for a while. Excellent interior, real sense of occasion, went like stink, cornered like a housefly, but with an amazingly supple ride - way better than a friend's Aston DBS. Suggest Gumsie maybe needs stronger meds?

The Vanquish is built on a very clever Lotus designed extruded aluminium chassis, tech which will no doubt find its way in to the rest of the range. Roll on 2016 - I can't wait to see the new car.
Oh no it isn't .( not the current one )
yes

None of the Gaydon cars have a "lotus chassis"
They do however ALL use the licencede bonding technology from Lotus and have done from VH1 cars.

The Aston V12 is/was hardly a pure Aston engine and the V8 has found homes in Jags and RRs so it's hardly a tragedy that Aston are sourcing their new engines etc. from AMG.

Who can forget (or forgive?) Vauxhall and Ford switchgear, Audi 200 headlamps etc. on previous Astons....

Let's hope Aston don't set on Lotus "Special Editions" designer as well ....

A great loss to Lotus, although Gavan Kershaw is very capable. A huge gain for Aston Martin, although I hope this doesn't affect Lotus too much...

Just a shame give Dr Bez good work he signs off with the typical parting shot, signing Aston's future into the hands of a German company.
I don't see a good legacy from Bez, far from it, the good stuff he claims predates him and is down to Ford

Dr bez was responsible for the vh chassis et al. If bob dover had stayed in charge your current astons may well have been mid engined....
