Walkinshaw 690hp HSV GTS W507

What we know as the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS gets just what was required - more power!

Once upon a time there was a Holden HSV W427, a 7.0-litre version of the old Vauxhall VXR8/ Holden GTS tuned by Walkinshaw. Autocar rather liked it, and now we have its successor: the W507.

Can we just have it grey please?
Can we just have it grey please?
Based on the current Gen-F HSV GTS (Vauxhall VXR8 GTS over here), that name doesn't relate to cubic inches as previously. It's power. In kilowatts. And 507 kilowatts is 689.3hp, so call it 690 or as near as makes no difference seven hundred horsepower. Oh, and 627lb ft. This needs to race the Charger Hellcat and soon.

The Walkinshaw mods comprise a new intake, exhaust, ceramic-coated headers and cats, a pulley upgrade for the supercharger and an ECU remap. Those absurd figures represent gains of 105hp and 81lb ft over the already pretty potent standard car.

In Australia the W507 kit costs 7,990 dollars (£4,200) and includes W507 badging, a certificate of authenticity, and 'a balance of new vehicle driveline warranty'.

The package in fact went through final testing recently with existing owners to ensure refinement and driveability was as required. Certainly looks that way... Still need convincing? Walkinshaw general manager says it "feels incredibly powerful, even more than the 507kW indicated".

Perhaps best of all, the W507 package can be fitted to the Maloo Ute if desired. Walkinshaw will be fitting 200 Australian cars with the upgrades and expects all of them to be fitted by the end of February. Seems a little pessimistic!

V8 Supercar for the road.

If only BTTC involved these swapping paint with M3's, C63AMG's and RS6's...

Holden Racing UK have been trading paint with others for the last few years in the QMN cup.

Is that an optical illusion or are the rear wheels (black) about 3 inches smaller in diameter than the front (red)?

That's what you are on about...........................

Yep the little man is right, I purchased a new Gen-F VXR8 about 7 months ago (my fourth VXR8), used it for about a thousand miles and then sent it up to Walkinshaw Performance at Chipping Norton for the boys to wave the magic wand and OMG what a piece of kit. They said over the phone when they called me to say it was ready "think your are going to like it"............... Like it was an understatement as with 761.9bhp you can only imagine what it's like till you sit in the pilots seat.

All I can say is "totally amazing performance" out of this very sensibly priced, big five seat saloon car which stands out from the crowd without a shadow of a doubt.

Best car I have ever owned, next step is new heads, Hahaa, as they tell me 850bhp is available. wink

How long did the first set of mods take WP to complete? Not sure how long I can live without driving it every day!

Black wheels look cr*p shock. Not that the red ones look much better, mind. :-)

Traction is very good as it has traction control but I leave it turned off and enjoy the climax. Hahaa

WP had mine for about ten days which did not bother me as I was in no rush and good things are worth waiting for.

V8 Supercar races are rarely exciting, though, are they?

I've seen more RACING in the average BTCC round than in a season of Aussie V8s.

Stupid amount of power, but that seems to be all car manufacturers bother about these days.

Poor old Toyota make a car that handles and everyone moans it's not got enough power, because, let's face it, power-slides look better on TG or in Evo photo spreads than razor sharp turn in and slingshot traction so we get another car which seems designed ONLY to destroy its rear tyres as quickly as possible and which about 3 people will actually buy...

Ho hum...

What?????

V8 supercars racing is great to watch - equally eventful as BTCC except driving standards are a lot higher - Plato would not get away with punting everybody off. In fact he'd probably get a fat lip.
