I wish I had his money to be able to build and track a car like that on a 'budget'!
He has had it for 14 years, from a time when a (then) 28 year old 911 was something that (in the US at least) was astonishingly cheap. Over in the US there is also a thriving market in not overly spendy aftermarket bits for them too - there is nothing in the film to suggest that he has done anything that wouldn't be within a very modest budget. The only consideration is that it couldn't be done cheaply now because the values of classic 911s have gone through the roof over the last 5 years and you wouldn't be able to source the donor car nor things like a 993 engine for sensible money.

+1. Amazed Trent is still banging on about this. Clearly not someone whos big on learning from previous experience. Perhaps he gets a bonus for the number of replies he gets from his PH "articles"

I was never a Porsche guy, living in the Lotus camp and aspiring to Ferraris.

I ended up with a 911 on a whim, and have had the car for five years now. It's just joined the family, and blends the everyday usability with something a little special. It's weird, I think this is uniquely Porsche, and every "next car" conversation now assumes it will be a stable mate to the Porsche in the garage.

Really enjoyed this video, and it's so easy to see how you can slip into a 15 year relationship with a 911. They are timeless in a way other cars don't seem to be.

Others may disagree, but sometimes a car clicks, and it's a personal thing.

I really don't get PH anymore, why do you (Dan Trent) with PH backing try and ridicule genuine petrolheads? I thought PH should celebrate people taking the time to film and share their passions?

To give the thread some balance, I think the Driver X references are hilarious and well justified. Mostly for the reactions of the uptight loons that featured so brilliantly in the last thread. I'm surprised that no one has started a "sack Dan Trent petition" yet! hehe

I mean, who wouldn't be outraged that a motoring website like PistonHeads, dares comment on a commercially produced motoring video. rolleyes

I think he is probably more obsessed with your video than you personally.

In fact I'd like to 'formally' (as if there's anything formal to the mischief I get up to) invite Daniel Trent for a friendly catch up with the L9O and myself at the next drive & lunch. Since he seems so infatuated with me smile
There's only one person infatuated with you.

It's you.

HTH.

Frank.

I think the lady doth protest too much?? smile

Just a general observation.

PH is not a single manufacturer/model forum, my experience of which is less than positive if you don't follow the consensus of car/bike XYZ is the best ever and if you don't agree we will gang up on the naysayer with torches and pitchforks.

One of the reasons I like PH is the diversity of viewpoint and how banter is generally taken without public displays of butthurt. Just a short glance at the youtube comments makes what was written on here look pretty tame.

Like it or not, your publically available video on Youtube has been a pretty hot topic over here, and you must have been aware when making the video that it would polarise opinions?

As a consequence of the above PH wants 'bums on seats' so why not riff around a current hot topic?

In other news, I AM interested in your car, (although I don't like the wheels smile ) and would greatly appreciate if you could answer some of the questions about the oily parts, as there are lots of people here interested in what you have done to get it to where it is? (I hope I didn't miss that reply, apologies if I did).

Merry Christmas..

Morning all! byebye

Just catching up on all this as I was out yesterday (more on this in a sec). I'm popular aren't I! I'll not meddle in the chat, beyond explaining my decision to reference Driver X in the lead story to this vid. Ask yourself, is there any way we could have posted a man talking about his Porsche in Time For Tea? and Driver X NOT to have come up as a topic of conversation or comparison? That was one of the biggest threads for some time on PH and it would inevitably have been raised given the subject matter.

I've offered my editorial opinion on both, not everybody agrees with that but it be boring if we all did. And we have a forum in which to discuss.

Frank - if the dates work I'd be delighted to take you up on the invitation. Let me know!

And in case anyone thinks I'm a hater some pics of what I was up to yesterday below! And, no, there isn't a video to follow. I'd booked the helicopter but the cloud was too low! wink

Cheers,

Dan

So Pistonheads is a bit like the sun eh? Trashy but fun, but for a more informed read go to The times?

Can we read about not power steering, but POWER ASSISTED steering there? Or Alicantra, revving to 9000 revs etc hehe

Im sure Frank is a very likeable chap in real life, but for his own journalistic integritys sake he should perhaps stop "comparing cars" doing 20 mph and "its got to be the 964 doesnt it" and failin to mention its his own bloody car he prefers? rofl Oh so you like your own car the most, what a shock! Be honest for a start.

And it just HAD to be a C4 hehe

Indeed, i saw a 964 parked up next to a 991 recently and the 964 looked like a toy.

Shame there's no comparison piece forthcoming but it looks like you had fun answering the call of the asphalt. wink
