That's actually a pretty good way of putting it.
I don't like auto lights, because if you can't recognise the need for lights the appropriate response, for you or for society as a whole, is to burn your license, but once the lights are on auto-aim seems like something that genuinely aids and extends the driver's abilities rather than replacing them. Top stuff.
Auto wipers - again ones that switch on automatically are a terrible idea, same reason, anyone who sees the benefit needs their license taken away now. Automatically adjusting intensity, eh, I'd say I was against purely because that's not really frequently needed, one setting should do for at least five minutes.

In steady light rain/drizzle in town they are good as when you're stopped the wait until there's enough moisture on the screen, and speed up when you're driving at 30 mph. In the patchy rain we get on the A38 past the moors again they stop the need to kep adjusting the gap.

What? Have you never driven a car with auto wipe, or in the rain at all?!You always have to turn auto wipers on anyway, so your first statement is irrelevant. And I find thats one of my biggest annoyances, a car without intermitent settings is very annoying, even ones with you are can adjust them quite frequently.
Why people are anti tech that lets you concentrate on driving is beyond me. Autowipe is like the headlight tech, lets you keep your visibility up without having to worry. People just like moan about tech in cars for the sake of moaning about it.

Yes ;-) It's just my experience that if it's raining, I can set and forget just fine with "manual" wipers. I might, once or twice a journey, have to switch settings, but that's it. And on auto it makes an annoying clicking noise, and is more annoying when it is caught out (might be just mine). YMMV but I don't see it as worth the bork potential, whereas the benefits of lighting, where the need changes from corner to corner, are.ghibbett said:

I have the Intelligent Lighting plus Night View Assist infrared on my MB. Ordered NVAssist out of curiosity and entertainment value, but coupled with the LED lights it's superb. There's been a few unlit cyclists and a couple of cats on dark country roads who have benefited from my extravagance recently. And the real test is that in 5000 miles I've not been flashed once (despite fully expecting to be). Surely lighting technology is one of the techs that has progressed the most in the last 10 years.

I never understand electric driving position adjustment either (may be I do on a Rolls Royce) - there's over half a foot in height between me & the wife - all we do is slide the seat back & forth, both of us are happy & takes 1 second (it'd take about a week with s motor)Mind you I do like current gen.
