Never been fear of getting caught atleast locally.I know where all the speed traps/cameras are and they're all in 50's and 30's and one 60.

Helpfully the local partnership lists where they'll be and what week.http://www.nottspeed.com/camera_locations.php

Fear of undercover or marked car? Pah! I doubt they have the resources.

However if I leave Nottinghamshire I'll religiously stick to the limits apart from motorway or duel carriageway.

Fuel also comes into it abit the puma sits at 4k rpm at an indicated 80 so doesn't do much good for economy.

This place would soon die off if no one had a license...

It would be the complete opposite. Everyone would be on here even more!

Indeed, I don't come here as much now, not exclusively a motorised drivers/riders site any more

If you drove any of the cars in your fantasy garage you might change your mind but can fully understand your point of view based on your current and previous steeds

like most, the fear of getting caught. its £100 a time for a gatso flash here, of which there's one every kilometre on the motorways. gets expensive quickly.

I have maxed out every car I've owned on clear days with low wind, good visibility etc.

But generally speaking I rarely go into 3 figures - terrified of being caught and being only 22 I'd probably see a massive increase in next years insurance.

80mph is what I tend to sit at.

I voted 'Fear of being caught' because my licence is useful to me and I'd rather not lose it. Whenever I'm on roads with no limit I generally drive at Vmax, so I'm not worried about any of the other options.

Absolutely. Speed Matters.

Or at least it used to

I voted 'fear of crashing'. Fear of unintended consequences to others is what limits my behavious, esp. overtakes, fundamentally - call it 'what did I not notice before I set out on present course of action'. An observation & appropriate-progress issue.

That also takes care of spotting cameras, scameras, side turnings on long straights, other risks.

Basically it's down to me. I obey all limits, when observed. Getting caught is then always secondary to paying attention...

ETA: I've no problem being faster than some and slower than others; certainly not interested in promoting own sense of 'progress' online.

My fella with the red flag struggles to maintain a speed exceeding 10mph hence the reason I rarely go fast.

Along with the likelihood of getting caught, I guess it's all down to how appropriate it is to get a whizz on. All the usual factors come into play and are given consideration before pressing on a bit.

Many years ago I left the Cardiff area and once on this side of the bridge spent a smidge over half an hour cruising around 130-140 before reaching my junction. This was at the dead of night and apart from the occasional lorry the motorway was empty. I was more concerned about a blue flashing light than exploding in a fiery death.

I wasn't in a barge, but the V8 behind me was complimented with a pair of turbos.

But they are only working by fear of punishment, not educating.

If the police had a day off and all the cameras were turned off, 87% of us would floor it! smile
People will allways think they are a better driver than they actually are where as people tend not to think of themselves as lucky, not getting caught takes more luck than skill so is more out of their (perceived) control, something you can not control is more scarey than something you can (or think you can) control, it's the human condition to think we are cleverer than we actually are but not many think they are luckyer than they actually are, in fact i find people tend to feel more unlucky than they are hense slowing for fear of getting caught is more natural than forcing people to admit they are not driving gods who can deal with anything the road throws at them.

Motorway driving is tedious. If I go out for a hoon around the lanes, the speed limits are seldom considered and I drive to road condition, traffic etc.
