Isle of Man
Peak District
Lake District
Pennines x 2
Northumberland National Park
8 day Scotland tour (much of it resembling tarmac rally stages)
Exmoor National Park
10 day Euro tour - 3117 miles:
France
Switzerland
Italy
Austria
Germany
Following alp passes:
Col de Turini
Col de la Bonette
Col d’Izoard
Col du Galibier
Col de l’Iseran
Col des Aravis
Grimsel Pass
Furka Pass
St. Gotthard Pass
San Bernardino Pass
Fluela Pass
Ofen Pass
Umbrail Pass
Stelvio Pass
Gavia Pass
Nockalmstrasse
Grossglocker High Alpine Road
Gerlos Alpenstrasse
Nurburgring x 3
Spa Francorchamps x 1
Definitely a keeper with many more 'ultimate drives' still to come, plus with the soon to arrive new addition to the family, will be fitted with a little recaro in the back
Great all-rounder!

Totally agree. If it has an aggressive "special" look I think it will sell very well. If it is closer to the more mainstream 235i that looks slightly awkward around the rear 3/4 then I think the 1M residuals will remain strong as people aren't looking to swap and new buyers aren't tempted as much. ratty6464 said:

If the M2 brings the 1M into reach I'll be happy - suspect it'll remain at a high value though and will end up with a 125i/135i with some select modsaussieinlondon said:

Lovely photos!I thought I wanted a Black one before I saw pictures of yours in white.
Does anyone own both the E46 CSL and 1M and can tell be which they prefer and why. Also which they think is faster around a circuit (both stock and with like for like tyres, ie both cars on Michelin Cups)
Also for a novice like myself, what were 'dealer fitted options' and why weren't they factory options?
Examples for a 1M for sale
• BMW Performance carbon fibre boot spoiler
• BMW Performance steering wheel, re-trimmed with matching Kyalami orange stitching
• BMW Performance gloss black kidney grilles
• BMW Performance pedals
• BMW Darkline taillights
• BMW N55 mid pipes
• Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres (which vastly improves grip!)
I have a friend that owns a CSL and a 1M and he loves both dearly. Nothing from the M car department new or old will trump the noise that a CSL makes but the way the 1M goes on boost coupled with its flirtatious handling is hard to be beaten for fun factor on the road.
I went from this 135 to a M3 Comp that I still own and don't regret it for a minute.
Had I have not already done nearly 70K miles with the bland but functional interior of the 1 series I might have gone for a 1M but I really wanted the V8 with DCT. Its wasn't a smart move financially but as stated, no regrets.
I have been fortunate enough to have some truly mind blowing days out doing what I love on track and road all over Europe but I have to say one of the very best days that will stay with me forever was an early morning start in his new 1M up in the Mountains near Bourg St Moritz.
Here's a few shots from that morning and one of my P&J just because...
What a truly epic and infectious little car!!

I drove the 1M at Brands and loved the thing. Could feel E30 M3 DNA but would have liked a bit more noise. Maybe something a little more lairy on the induction side?
With a big hair dryer acting as an induction noise silencer, that's not really that possible.e21Mark said:
Been thinking about a 1 series coupe, an S54 and an LSD, to build my own cheaper version.
Ideal if you want a noise heavy car.BMW tried a S54 and the chassis team said no, as too heavy coupled with the shorter E82 wheelbase which mucked up their ideal weight distribution.
S54 is over 20kg than the N54 in the 1M.
That's why most people either go with a N52 125i with a remap as the tuned n/a E82 option, because of the very light engine weight (nearly 60kg lighter than a S54) or the S65 V8 from a E9* M3, as that's only about 10kg heavier than a N54 and still 10kg lighter than a S54.
If I did put together a 1 series coupe, it would be on a budget, hence the S54 route. I don't think my driving skills are honed to the point where 20kgs would have too much impact, although I wouldn't run with anything I didn't need, so should be able to lose weight elsewhere, with no trim, poly windows and fibreglass panels where possible.
Much as I like the M5's V8, I'd much prefer something that revs higher and harder. I wish BMW had built an S14 for the new millennium, rather than just going with turbo's. I guess what I'd be aiming for is a modern version of the E30 M3. Light weight, rev hungry and fun.

That's why people use the S65 with it's 8k+ limit. Also, there are a healthy-ish supply of affordable wrecked E9* M3's around to provide all the bits (engine, box, back axle assembly, and brakes, suspension etc)
After all that's what BMW did with the 1M with the exception of the engine.
I'm not aware of anyone dropping a S54 into a E82 for all the previous stated reasons, so someone has to be the first

My main interest in doing it would be because it's a bit different, but also because I couldn't afford a real 1M, so next best thing would be building my own. In reality though, I'd have to part with the E30 to pay for it and that isn't going to happen!
Sounds like a good plan to me I don't think 20 kgs is enough to notice it being nose heavy. The iron block S52 is 50 to 60kgs heavier than the M52 and that seemed to work ok in the M3. If the engine was mounted slightly lower and further back the weight distribution would be better anyway. How about an LS engine at about 160kgs just a thought.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
