My main interest in doing it would be because it's a bit different, but also because I couldn't afford a real 1M, so next best thing would be building my own. In reality though, I'd have to part with the E30 to pay for it and that isn't going to happen! smile
Sounds like a good plan to me I don't think 20 kgs is enough to notice it being nose heavy. The iron block S52 is 50 to 60kgs heavier than the M52 and that seemed to work ok in the M3. If the engine was mounted slightly lower and further back the weight distribution would be better anyway. How about an LS engine at about 160kgs just a thought.
That's why the S65 from the E9* M3 is a popular fit, as not only is the S65 V8 only about 10kg heavier than the N54 (and about 10kg lighter than the S54) but being a V8, it's CofG is lower and further aft than the heavier six's.

LS option would be a LOT more hassle to fit, as you wounldn't be able to integrate the engine ECU with the rest of the BMW systems and vice versa. It's been done on later E46 without all the CANBUS stuff that a E82 has, but, unless you were building a stripped out track weapon and deleteing all the ESP/TCS/ABS/converting to hyrdraulic steering and god knows what else, it could be a nightmare to integrate for a road car.

I'm not a fan of engine swaps from other marque either. smile

Does anyone know if BMW will ever bring this model back on to the market? It's an absolute god send for anyone who wishes to be constantly reminded what is it to drive....and not be driven

The forthcoming M2 is the 1M replacement.

Production starts November 2015.

Ordered a black onewhen I had my z4mc but as I'd lost 15k on the z4 in 2 years I cancelled it (with some gentle persuasion from the wife). I bought the number seen on the review car MC10 UPE from the dvla but when I cancelled my order I sold to BMW uk for their orange press car thanks to Garlick for hooking me up with them.

From memory my order was £47k so it looks like it was a dumb cancel! We live and learn.

I could tell you about the mint 50,000 mile 993tt I sold for £36.5k which would now be 80-90k but then I might kill myself !

Man economics works both ways!!

BANG!

The owners of the nursery I take my daughter to own a white one and I'm forever telling the wife not to drive it daily and that they're sitting on a great investment.

I hope, one day, they'll thank me for that piece of advice and let me spank it down the A41. Pwetty pwease!
The reality being that the £40/hr they charge for childcare makes the price of the 1M largely irrelevant.
