Nice shed. Will probably prove less problematic to own than a similar vintage bmw.

Looking for an MG-ZT to replace my trusty BMW 318.

I have looked at a couple which were absolute dogs as they both had waterlogged boots (in the summer) which the dealer blamed on the car washer forgetting to close the boots when he pressure washed the cars!!!!

Drive one a couple of weeks so, went away to think about it, returned to put down a deposit 30 minutes later & it had gone!!!

Was well pissed off about that.

The good ones seem to go fairly quickly with only the hounds remaining unsold.

The shed looks good value however too far for me to go so the hunt, locally, continues.

Always had a soft spot for these, lacking only RWD in my book. The earlier 75's were better before MG/Rover gash facelifts. For shed money, it looks good value...

No just no! It will never be a classic, the rover 75 maybe, but MG ZT versions are parts bin desperation specials. Fitted in a style that was reminiscent of a ram raid on Halfords in the max power era. Urgh

Works for BMW and Audi with Sport/M Sport and S-Line though so perhaps the only problem is that MGR were 5 years ahead of the game.

All the others did horrible "off road" super minis after the, erm, interesting 25 thing MGR did.

..... I do think the V6 needed a six-speed gearbox - at 70 mph its somewhere near 3000rpm, and at a time when nearly all sports saloons were fitted with a six-speed it was a bit of a backwards step by Rover not to fit the ZT with one....
Surely overdrive would have been more suitable?

You're incredibly fortunate in the UK. There's ONE on Mobile.de in the whole of Germany and it's a snip at 4,100 €. I'd be tempted by the shed though.

Incidentally, to see where values of nice 75/ZT's are going I popped along to local cheap auction tat fest last night for a bit of amusement.

2003 Rover 75 CDT.....CAP 980.....I walked off when the bidding was at £1800.....

OK, so it was a diesel and sensible mileage but there is very serious demand for them both at trade and retail.

These really appealed to me until I actually drove one. Big, heavy and not very comfortable despite the size. Not enough poke from the engine and not particularly smooth either. Looks and sounds good but just doesn't deliver on the driving experience. I would rather have the 75 with leather, fake wood, etc, and just accept the fact it is an uncool wafty barge, not a sports saloon.

However the ZT does look the business (just the right side of halfords chav IMO) and this one looks rather tidy for £900.

A friend has a 75 1.8T Connoisseur; it's IMO one of the most comfortable, relaxing and smooth cars this side of an S-class, so it's genuinely surprised me to see you make those comments about the ZT. confused

Great shed this week, although the estate has the advantage of a decent load carrying ability but retains the handling of the saloon.
Bit surprised about the comfort comments on here. I've had mine for four years plus now and never been uncomfortable in it, even after a 500+ mile trip down to the Alps. I'm 6ft plus and have size 11s and like to sit down in a car, not on it as a lot of cars seem to be these days.
If you can get a well serviced one on reasonable mileage they're a good buy. Somebody on here mentioned panel gap as poor. It isn't that brilliant around the front wing/bonnet/front panel (mine's a facelift) but we owned a Maestro once and you could drive a bus through the gaps on that, so it doesn't seem too bad to me in comparison. Possibly not in the BMW/Audi class in that respect.
Nice to see so many positive comments on here. Not so long ago, the meerest mention of MG/Rover brought down loads of criticism.

Yep. Supply and demand. You can't buy a new one. Or anything like it really. Funnily enough - quite a few people I know priced out of decent estate W214's have inclined toward a 75 tourer. I don't see them as a bad investment at all. Particularly the pre-facelift early cars.

Repaired one that was lowered off a ramp running and in gear, when fixed it was a v nice car, It was 2.5 burgundy+tan interior, I wouldn't of thought much of MG's at the time but it was actually quite nice, it did develop HG issues before being repaired and sold but I though it was almost classy in a jaguar-like way v classy British styled interior,

Head gasket issues on a KV6? That's unusual.

I had a ZTT 190 & it was a really good car. It replaced an Audi A4 Quattro Avant & while the road-holding in extremis was not as good, the steering feel was far superior. I ran it for 2.5 years & 80,000m no problems except (hands up) a cooked clutch! 2/3 the price of the 6 month old A4, servicing half the price, economy similar. Both sat on the Autobahn easily at 130mph on the clock, but the Audi felt more "planted" - especially in the wet! 4/500 miles a day - no problem in either. Audi cabin finish was better, but the MG didn't roll its windows down as you walked away after locking it! "A well known problem sir, happens on lots of VAG vehicles"

it was a high millage UK import and no doubt bought for peanuts, Think it was the thermostat that caused it, we used it as a go-for car for afew weeks after and it was a nice waft to the motor factors for 19yo me, I'd imagine a V8 one would be quite the machine

they made a really decent job of turning a comfy armchair into a decent handling, nice sounding sports saloon.
For anyone looking.. 17K miles! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Amazing-MG-ZT-190-Trophy...

My 75, paid 2300 quid in 2009 with 28k miles to get me to work, leave anywhere etc.

A certain Tiff Needell drove it last year for the Fifth Gear program, when it had done ,80,000 miles.
