Buying a car - take a jack?

Over thirty years ago when I was looking for my first car rust was much more of a problem. We would jack the cars up (or let the owner do it) and it was seen as perfectly normal. On attempting to jack up a Chrysler Sunbeam on the factory jacking point the jack worked perfectly but the car didn't move an inch, although it did make an alarming crunching noise. Not sure what the owner would have done if they'd had a puncture.

Went to look at a Griff and the owner himself offered me a jack from his garage and let me jack it up to inspect to outriggers, kind of there and then made a judgment about him and the car, and yes i bought it.
