£100K Garage: Mark Williams

It's the nightmare before Christmas as Mark picks out some duds from the PH classifieds

Name: Mark Williams
Previously owned: Vauxhall Corsa 1.0, Vauxhall Corsa 1.4, Vauxhall Astra 1.6
Currently owned: Vauxhall Astra 1.4
On the shortlist: "Mini Paceman, Audi A4 S-Line, Fiat 500L"

Ford EcoSport 1.5 TDCI
Cost:
£20,394
Balance: £79,606
Why I chose it: "In my dream garage, I want to cover as many bases as possible and this miniature off-roader will keep me sorted during the winter months. Okay, it's not four-wheel drive but it's got decent ground clearance which should help with snow. And it has a whiff of Range Rover about it."

See here for all Ford Ecosports on PH.

Audi TT 2.0 TDI Black Edition
Cost:
£31,888
Balance: £47,718
Why I chose it: "Any dream garage needs something light and without compromise; something you can thrash down a B-road. I would really grab this by the scruff of the neck and let the chassis do its magic. I just hope I can keep my licence safe!"

See here for all Audi TTs on PH (not all are diesel cabrios, honest).

Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI Elegance
Cost:
£12,488
Balance: £35,230
Why I chose it: "Did someone say 'barge'? I love big Mercs and this has an automatic, for ultimate luxury. This will be kept in the garage and always perfectly valeted. I would use it maybe once or twice a year for the odd black-tie do where the missus and I need to turn up in style."

See here for all C-Classes on PH.

Dodge Caliber SXT
Cost:
£5,490
Balance: £29,740
Why I chose it: "I grew up watching films like Vanishing Point and Bullitt and think Dodges are ace. This is petrol so should go like the clappers. Expect to see me on the six o'clock news in a car chase soon."

See here for all Dodge Calibers on PH (yep, there's more than one!).

Vauxhall Mokka 1.7 CDTI
Cost:
£17,421
Balance: £12,319
Why I chose it: "Once or twice a year, my neighbour Brian and I wake up early and do a blast to Dover for a good old booze cruise. I've always wanted to turn up in something classy, and this in white with black leather looks stunning. This could be the ultimate GT, and will allow me to feel like a Bentley boy. Plus it's automatic and diesel so shouldn't suffer too badly on MPG!"

See here for all Vauxhall Mokkas on PH.

BMW 116d
Cost:
£10,034
Balance: £2,285 (Think I'll save this for fuelling the Dodge!)
Why I chose it: "This will be my daily driver. My commute is about six miles and, as much as I would love to take the Dodge, I need something that won't cripple my bank balance. This is a manual diesel so I can choose when to change (not like some that seem to hold on to the gear forever) and a Sport model so should be enough to keep up with any boy racers.

This is either hilarious or the most baffling thing I've ever seen.

It's very rare when I can't find one single vehicle that I like in these features.....But this list has done it !

Was this written the morning after (or during?) the Christmas party?

I'm guessing the brief must have been "Find the most pointless waste of £100k you can" - in which case, chapeau, this is a corking list - or can anyone do better?

I think we are onto something here... why not start a thread about a hypothetical "100K pile of miserable crap" garage" ?

Haha brilliant, some truly non PH worthy cars there, don't think I've ever seen or even knew the Ford Ecosport existed. The name is a contradiction in terms and never the 2 should meet.

The only way to devalue £100k faster than investing in the rouble.

I can only assume a piss take, I hope.

Has no-one read the strapline? It says '...picks out some duds...' - it's clearly tongue in cheek.

I saw one of those Ford Ecosports earlier, my heart sunk a bit - what possessed the young chap to buy it I'll never know. Hateful things. Nice twist on the £100k garage.
