Seriously Overpriced Cars
Discussion

That's about right, apart from the crap advert and photosThe convertibles always held their value very well and the sportline model tended to be the most desirable

Not sure what's worse.. the price or the fact a car like that hasn't been used in 10.5 years.AMGJocky said:

Seems legit.

It still looks expensive, you can't benchmark it against a standard JCW though
Surely a typo of one, or maybe two additional zeroes....

Didn't know the answer to this until today when I read several road test reports on the new MX-5 RF. Most complained about tiny cabin & ALL about how blustery the cabin was when the roof was open & noisy when closed. THEN I noted the list price of the top model 2 litre with Sat Nav. - £27K - oh please!!!
Have just visited local Mercedes main dealer & on the forecourt is another 2 litre manual gearbox sports car with a folding metal roof, sat nav, lots of cabin space. Discounted price £30k (New NOT used).
So why in all that's holy would you want a titchy middle market Mazda when you can have a classy premium Mercedes for just a few bob more?
And don't give me all that nonsense about lightweight handling & how it might go round corners as if on rails. This is the UK & most drivers spend most of their time in a queue so the Mercedes has to be a much nicer play to be.

You're comparing the list price on the Mazda (which I bet no-one will pay!) to a discounted price on the Mercedes-not an entirely fair comparison IMO.Have just visited local Mercedes main dealer & on the forecourt is another 2 litre manual gearbox sports car with a folding metal roof, sat nav, lots of cabin space. I'd much rather have the MX5 than the SLK as I value driver appeal over a badge and a nice interior. However most of the UK would probably have it the other way around-fair enough.
Not a fully fledged classic and never will be, you'd have to pay a real knobhead to pay more than £2k for this piece of st.

Good examples of those have never been as low as £2k so no idea where you get that price from.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Also (possibly) a poverty-spec SLC against top of the range MX5?I'd much rather have the MX5 than the SLK as I value driver appeal over a badge and a nice interior. However most of the UK would probably have it the other way around-fair enough.
However, brokers are offering massive >20% discounts on SLC at present (unsurprising, as it's basically a six-year old design), but almost nothing on MX5
Mazda MX-5 RF Sport Nav Manual 2dr Targa (160PS 2.0 Petrol 161g/km) : DRIVE-AWAY Grand Total Price £25,110
Mercedes-Benz SLC200 AMG Line Manual 2dr Roadster (187PS 2.0 Petrol 150g/km) : DRIVE-AWAY Grand Total Price £27,752
