The classic car market isn't about driving the things. Values are entirely derivative of future expected values. You don't buy an E-Type to drive it, and you wouldn't want to.
It's a shame how right you are.
Depends on the type of classic.
Plenty of people buy classic minis to drive them, same for e21/30 bmw's.
Same as the off-road crowd use old series/defenders/rr classics.

Saw this on another forum this morning...

https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail/FL0116-230036/0/2...

Estimate $1.3-$1.6 million for a 200 mile 2012 MP12 with a few extras, and a horrendously tacky paint job.

They're only Meganes for Christs sake.
They're the fastest Front drive road cars (at their times) to lap the Nordschleife. They were also limited run, so they will attract a premium over the regular models.

It's like why the Golf Edition 30's are worth more than a similar age GTI.

I think it depends more on the individual. I may be some sort of pervert because I quite like cars that don't massage my ego. I have driven and enjoy driving E-Types and various other classics that require a lot of good will. My pal at work has a series 1 E-Type coupe which he does around 2-3000 miles a year on, which has included driving from Aberdeen to Goodwood and back with his wife. He also has a modern Ferrari, a young Range Rover Sport, a Mini Cooper S, a 993 C4 and a recently acquired Ferrari 308 restoration project. (The E-Type was a project too)

Some people just like new cars and like the look of old ones. Other people actually enjoy the hard work that old ones really mean.

Silly prices, but those MG's are mostly delivery miles or < 10K miles. Wonder where they found them?

I'm sure these have been linked to before a couple of years back.
I wonder how much interest there has been, the garage surely cannot afford to have them cluttering up the forecourt forever?

This must end the thread as this is surely the winner.

Crazy money for a car that was st when new.
I'm late to this thread but this is unreal. I learned to drive in my dad's one of these in 1997. How can it be possible to buy a bog standard car like this brand new in 1984, and only do 100 miles in it and keep it for 20 years???
