Re: the twenty-five-thousand-quid asking price for the 1.6 205GTi above. A mate had a tidy example, similar miles,
a few years back that I think he paid £250 for. Drove to work in it, kicked the scheisse out of it on a few trackdays, cubed it at the scrappies, walked away happy.

£25k? Popcorn, GO!.........
Relevant part of your post in bold; whilst that £25k example is clearly overpriced (at present), a few years can make a world of difference to the value of a car. Just look at the value of old fast fords.

If your friend really did have an example as good as you say, knocked the crap out of it then scrapped it, I suspect he might have been in a even happier position now if he'd treated it half decently and been able to hold on to it. Then again, if you don't realise what you've got at the time...

It's like the people who just 5-6 years ago were selling mint Escort RS Turbo's for a couple of grand...they effectively had a lottery ticket in their hand and set fire to it cry

At the time even decent 205 GTi 1.6s were only worth a grand or so (probably a decade or so ago). His £250 example was an 'expendable' daily and track car, he had no reason to cherish it with a view to it becoming an investment 10 years hence...

With hindsight, his late big-bumper oak green J-reg Mk2 Golf GTI, Mk2 Scirocco 16v (one of only 10 officially sold in the UK) and brace of Mk1 MR2s would be worth a fair amount nowadays if all hadn't either gone to the crusher or been turned upside down in a field. Again, at the time they were worth the square-root of bugger-all compared to now.

How much does it cost to keep a car in good nick for 10 years though? You can't just dump it in a field and expect it to drive out pristine after all...

I thought they had put a zero to many on the price... Then I clicked on the advert
"Yes, £20k is a lot, but these cars will be worth that very soon and may climb even higher. Good ones have been selling for £10k and one at Bonhams sold for much more, so now is the time to buy. Reading reviews and articles the say that 205 GTi prices are about to go crazy"

Yes, £20k is a lot.. God loves a trier!
Good ones are selling for 10k.. so you have doubled yours in price?
We will be sad to see her go! I doubt you will be that sad if you get 20k for it!

So they admit it's not worth £20k in the advert where they're asking for £20k? Talk about brass neck.

When I die and get sent to Hell that's where they're going to send me...to work for eternity...at Hursley Hill Garage! Just look at the car marques they're franchised to:

http://www.hursleyhillgarage.co.uk/pages/new-car-o...

That would be my absolute nightmare...

"Please God...No! No!...I'll be good for ever more...please don't send me there...pleeeease! weeping"
i think they used to have a ssasyong franchise, there used to be loads of the beautiful Rodius outside.
He has an 02 megane scenic on at £2495 and a 04 yaris at £3995 !
Still he must survive somehow that garage has been there for years so something must keep in business.

Is that good, bad or average compared to other similar cars in the area?

I thought Australia always had mental 2nd hand prices for cars, Remember seeing 10-15 year impreza sti's for the equivalent of £20k

Oh no that's mental. It more than twice what is should be.

This is what $75k should be:

You would have to be mental to pay those prices for a 25/ZR in 2016. The V8's being rather rare and sought after is fine but z bloody old 25 is not worth it at all. Even with 5 miles on clock. Interior is so so dated. Build quality is terrible. God, I'm having flash backs lol.
I'm genuinely contemplating giving the dealership a call just to ask them about the prices, it's ludicrouslaugh
Crack on. I'd love to hear the response
I don't think the Perodua's he has will be going anywhere very soon either
£2750
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2011-61-Perodua-MYVI-1-3...

£5495
http://www.hursleyhillgarage.co.uk/used/perodua/my...
That's barking. You could put the Rover thing down to some kind of weird patriotic fetish but a 5 year old Perodua?! For another £500 you can have a brand new car with a warranty and everything!
