That's no good then. Read the OP: apparently even a simple car cover is far too much of an inconvenience.

I have been using a car cover for a while and got a bit tired of taking it off and putting it on so i built a carport to the front of my garage.
Much more convenient to erect a car port that doesn't work, then take it down again once it has alienated the neighbours and attracted enforcement action from the Council...

Maybe the roof leaks. Most convertibles end up damp inside during the winter

A decent sheltered car port on the side of the house(two or three sides covered) is great. Plenty of ventilation but keeps the damp down, keeps discs cleaner and the car tidier.

This one is none of those things however.

OTOH my parents had a car port with three sides covered and one night the wind took it away like a kite. (They did live in a place called 'windy settlement' boxedin )

Imagine how that looks for the neighbour to your left. When they look out of their windows on the upper levels all they will see is a 8-10 ft by 6 ft corugated plastic mass. It doesn't look so bad from the ground view. But it will definitely obscure their view of the road. As for those parking large RVs or caravans outside small houses, I'd complain about that too. It looks awful. OP you need to tear it down.

Also seriously how is it secured to the ground because the surrounding blocks look very untouched in the photo.

But of the OP tears it down all the neighbours will see from the windows on the upper levels is a Prowler. wink

Fair point. This could be valid grounds for an appeal to retain the car port. scratchchin

OP, is there door directly from the garage to the house?

If so then I have two suggestions, both of which will require a sledgehammer and some good favour with the lady of the house.

My first suggestion is to move the left (as we're looking at it) internal wall of the garage a bit more left so that you can park it in there and still get out.

My second is to move/extend the door to a place where (when open) you can open the car door into that space.

You obviously need to be careful about what is weight bearing and what isn't.

My neighbours have recently erected a horrendously large conservatory and whilst it's hideous they're nice enough people, we don't get any trouble from them and I'm not massively vain so we let it go. Maybe there will come a time when we need something and they might think twice before objecting.

Bunch of whinging nimbies In this thread.
It's NIMBYs not nimbies: it's an acronym.

It stands for Not In My BACK Yard.

If the OP had stuck to building ramshackle shanty-town structures in his BACK yard, he wouldn't be having all these problems.
surely that would make them NIYFYs then?

The original car cover is by far the better solution.
problem is that car covers can and do scratch paintwork....

ha strange you should say that lol !

OP, are you black? No not because of the council estate, staffy and disregard for the neighbours. Because the only Prowler that I've ever seen was being driven South towards the Blackwall tunnel with the roof down by a black bloke wearing sunglasses. Those cars certainly draw attention, brightened up a boring traffic jam. Can't be two of them so close to each other, how many in the country?

I keep my TVR in one.
Not as quick as a simple car cover but doesn't come into contact with your car and so doesn't damage your paint work.

Apart from its obvious hideousness, is there any fall on that roof? Also, I can see damp starting to creep up the posts where you've attached them straight to the block paving rather than, say, a brick plinth with a DPC over.

As its left hand drive and the house is on the left hand side of the garage as you enter then maybe this could bring you some inspiration,

OP custard test has been set man up or as you know its then bull st and you will be rightly hounded for any lies.
Irony defined.
That may be the case, but I have a feeling his assessment of the situation is absolutely spot on.
