Also, the McLaren F1 GTR: http://youtu.be/OFLQAEiO7xo?t=3m18s

Those downshifts are just insane. I'd swap a lot of real world speed for something as visceral and race-car like as that.

My Mk1 Escort, running a steel short stroke crank, 10,000 rpm through twin Weber 45s and no filters. Awesome.

Agreed. I love the "whump" noise.

Sounds fake to me, like someone mixed in some F1 noises.

I prefer induction noise. The Caterham on TB's has a lovely bark and loud enough that I'm not even sure what the exhaust sounds like on the move biggrin

Individual throttles always sound best, whether carbs or FI. One throat per cylinder.
Absolutely.

As someone already mentioned, Ford BDA (especially echoing around a forest) is one of the best...as you get the infamous added belt whine.

Quad 48IDA downdraft Webers on a Ford 289 V8 is equally wonderful at full chat.

Or 6 downdraft Webers on a Colombo V12 smile

Honda's S2000 and Type R engines sound great with a hard pipe induction kit on them, the standard airboxes completely strangle the noise.

The best induction noise imo comes from sports bikes, particularly high revving screamers with ram air induction systems - get your head tucked in behind the screen at high revs and your ears are only inches away from the induction tubes, the noise is incredible.
