Not quite the impact of the 2009 model with its 556 horsepower since other cars already exist with this kind of crazy horsepower at this price range.

I do like the hood scoop. I like being able to tell a car is special from most angles. Earlier CTS-V's, I think, have a different grill that sometimes ends up on the lesser models, and their little v symbols aren't always there.

The CTS 2-door is the one I really like. I favor Ford over GM, but I think the Cadillac coupe is going to be considered a classic in the future.

These relatively normal looking saloons are getting a bit too nippy. Hopefully the next GTR will put them all in their place with 800 BHP in standard form.

The GTR doesn't need such power to outperform these barges (speaking as an owner of a VXR8 GTS). Its 4 wheel drive and trick electronics put it in a different class altogether tbh. I love the fact that I have a massive boot and can fit adults in the back whilst still having a wonderful v8 under the hood. The GTR is a little too "Playstation" for me.

The GTR is a totally focused performance machine with little soul, ideal for some but as a package it lacks the feel a big V8 gives you. Saying that I'd have one alongside my SC V8 toy if I could afford both but whilst I can't yet il stick with the V8 ta. Fair play to Caddy for not being shy as though! smile

The Gen F is based on the VF Commodore which is an entirely different platform. How is it a 'Version of' it?

In fact the Gen F as the LSA and I'd assume that being a new Model this CTS V will have one of the new Gen 5 LT engines.
Bit of a muppet moment for me as was getting confused with the camaro sharing the GM zeta platform. Upon checking further, it probably uses the GM Sigma II platform which was designed to share components with the larger zeta platform and thus not "An entirely different platform".

You are right on the engine though upon closer inspection, the pulley arrangement at the front does look different to my LSA pulley arrangement.
I know The orginal CTS-V was Sigma II, I think this new one and the 6th Gen Camro will are the Alpha platfrom. Not 100% on that though.
According to Wiki(!) it looks like you are right on that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Alpha_platform

The LT4 engine looks interesting, would be interested in how the CVVT works through the pushrods though.
So that'll mean the CTS-V will be the mirror of the 6th Gen Camaro ZL1. Well... that isn't a bad thing, is it? smile

Its definitely a Gen5 LT engine. Whether its the LT4 or not remains to be seen. Pity the Holden stuff isn't running the same engine yet..

What I've read on other news sites says it's the LT4, which makes sense with that power figure and that the LT4 was designed to replace the supercharged LS9 from the old ZR1 Corvette. COuld jsut be an LT1 with a supercharger though.

They're the only 6.2 Lt engines for cars though so it's 50/50

Imagine that engine in a Rover SD1 touring car copy shell and decent suspension, and in a dark red.
Anyway, to this car. Like it lots.

Most of these supersaloons are traction limited up to near legal limits anyway so the power isn't especially relevant. A 500bhp saloon is pretty much as quick as an 800bhp saloon when driven on the roads.

Still, it's decreasingly about what it can do and more about how it makes you feel. I'm not that keen on this thing's looks but as a concept I like it smile

Id say its definitely not an LT1 with SC. Its 10bhp off the LT4 so its either the LT4 or with a slight tweak.
Don't forget the LT4 only runs a 1700 blower as opposed to the 2300 in the LS9 so there is little to no headroom for the aftermarket to spin it higher.

Apparently that makes for better of throttle response.

Id put a pint on it being an LT4 with detuned exhaust or intake setup, perhaps also calibration etc. Makes sense and keeps economies of scale in the picture.

I agree the Holdens probably wont see the LT series as they go end of life in 2 years. Though you never know..

I know wink

It takes a lot of money and Engineers to integrate a completely new powertrain with an existing vehicle, and sadly Holden have neither.

So 640hp is impressive. Now give it a body it deserves: the Elmiraj.
