I used to get the odd comment about a hairdresser car with the Elise, now I've just purchased an SLK...
I presume that the hairdresser comments are going to become a far more frequent occurrence
The SLK is a bit mincey so it's inevitable. I used to get comments about my old Z4 but ignored it tbh.I presume that the hairdresser comments are going to become a far more frequent occurrence

The Mrs has an MX5.
The one time that anyone we don't know has said 'hairdresser's car' to her she's sweetly turned round and said words to the effect of "No, it's my Winter car, I don't like the idea of driving any of my TVRs with all the salt and grit on the roads this time of year." That seemed to shut them up.
Mates and friends made/make the odd hairdresser comment but it's known to be in jest, in the same way one mate is often met with the greeting "Hello Droopy" even though the alleged incident was over 20 years and 20 girlfriends ago. So tired and old it's affectionate
Once overheard a bloke calling the Chim a hairdresser's car to his lady friend as they walked past and behind it in traffic in a town centre a few years back. 6k rpm with effectively a straight through exhaust as they walked behind seemed to change their perception and possibly did little for their underwear
Really? Are the many cars which make worse winter cars than an mx-5? We all get stupid comments if we buy cars that others wish they could own.
I have a TVR.....you can imagine the comments I get about reliability. Yawn.....
Ironically, I have done 212 miles today in my TVR, to see clients. Our two German cars are both off the road, one (Audi A8) with a serious battery drain issue and the other (Merc ML) non-starting randomly. My most reliable car is actually the TVR, and it's the oldest by five years.
I have had some great dices with MX5s on track days, particularly on handling orientated tracks like Cadwell Park. Really good cars, great value for money, and clearly rewarding to drive at speed.

Just reply '17' (other numbers are also available) when the maker of the comment says 'errr' just reply 'you are the 17th person (other nouns are available) who's made that comment this week'
The one thing that they like is to think that they are original as well as witty (?); this is the perfect antidote.
