I love the haters that think Cayennes cant cut it off road.. As good as a Defedner? Of course not. Capable? Yes.
No "hate" here. - I don't think anyone's seriously comparing a Cayenne with a Defender or suggesting they're for the same purpose. I see the Porsche as a RR Sport rival, with a similar road / off road compromise...well, air suspended models anyway. I love the idea of a V8 manual, it'd be a great all-rounder and the only reason I said it wouldn't get me out of my LR was that it doesn't meet my requirements...

You see I don't have a raw nerve but it is important to fully understand the virtues of a car..The Porsche is a much cosier and warmer place to spend time when you use them as intended..

I can honestly say that with the correct wheels and tyres the Cayenne will do anything a defender will do. Its only a matter of Panel damage and most people even the ones running defenders have absolutely no need to use them to that extreme
...plus, I wouldn't want to rip the panels / bumpers / trim off either a Cayenne or RRS. The drivetrain of either is up to the task of serious off-roading but the overhangs front and rear would stop either from following Defenders etc. - It would be interesting to see one with aftermarket steel bumpers etc.; even my solid axle Discovery needs them because otherwise It'll just get smashed-up going where I want to take it. And yes; I agree that most people don't "need" any more capability. smile

The problem is that they're more addictive than crack...and probably just as harmful to your bank balance (the steel bumpers I want for mine are about £3k alone)! hehe

On the upside, it's a manual V8 (how many like these will you find across the board?)
But still, it is a butt ugly SUV so I'll pass.
Shame.

Now if you found me a 550i M Sport manual estate for that money...

Here's mine next to something a lot bigger!

Quite like the extra lights on yours, did you fit them.yourself?
Sorry; can't see your pic.

The lights & A-bar were fitted from new (they're genuine LR ones) but I'll be swapping for an ARB Deluxe bar and some LED spot lights after I've spent some money under the skin. cool

Yeah not sure why it's showing, if you click on it it opens up into a separate page seems to work then.

Seen it now; love that colour interior. - I was originally looking for an Alveston red one with the same upholstery but then saw my one and it just looked great. Is yours a Landmark or ES? I can't tell from a front view.

It's an ES, second one have had a MK1 ES previously.
Interior is lovely, had the interior valeted recently.
Only problem with mine is the driver seat bolster is quite heavily worn, think it's because it's never had side steps so when someone gets in due to the height the seat gets rubbed hard.
Previous one had sidesteps and the seat wasn't worn.

The Cayenne has always been dismissed as being a vulgar, ostentatious brute. The thing is, in a sea of flashy Range Rover variants and now the new Defender Sport thing, a humble Cayenne diesel in grey doesn't really stand out all that much. It's become quite understated in fact.

Also you get a heck of a lot of decent car for your money if we're talking poverty spec V6 with lowish miles for £12k.

The new idiot on the road is the chap who pays quadruple the price of a standard LR Defender for one that's been 'improved' with quilted leather, a remap and some wheels and bull bars.

Yeah; love the ES seats with the integrated front armrests and, unlike some cars, heated seats that get hot enough to make a difference when you're still wearing your coat. smokin

Mine's an ES Premium (run-out 2004 model, easily distinguished by the G4 roof bars), so came with the tubular side steps from the factory but as I said earlier, I'm swapping those for some rock sliders with tree bars that will also double as steps...better than the current ones actually because the plastic sill cover above the step means I can only get the ends of my toes on them.

Ah so that's why they're different, friend of mine (PH'er also) has an ES and his roof bars are the same as yours we weren't sure why.
I wasn't particularly happy as I think yours look better hehe
He doesn't have cruise control on his but it's definitely an ES, do you have it on yours?
I'd assume it would have if it's a spec higher than the standard Es?

I agree with this, and feel that the same is true of some other previously maligned SUVs/4x4s such as the X5 and Touareg, provided you go for no tints, smallish wheels and a nice sensible colour

From my 2004 'Definitive Editions' brochure:

Mine has privacy glass, passenger's electric lumbar support and I retrofitted cruise control, which is an easy job as they already come pre-wired (knew that before I bought it wink - See the unused connector next to the right hand horn button in the pic below). £114 for a complete kit from here. The hardest bit is cutting a hole for the steering wheels - a mirror of the one on the other side for the audio controls.

The good news for you is that the G4, or "aero", roof bars can be retrofitted. You need to take the headlining out but that's not difficult...might want to check your sunroof seals whilst you're at it, if they haven't already been done.

Have you joined D2BC? It's an Aladdin's cave of help and useful info!

That's brilliant thank you, mine came with cruise control so unsure why he didn't have it.
Yeah the sunroof on mine has had some problems hehe my next job though is to get side steps for it, my OH is quite short so she finds it difficult to get in laugh

Not heard of D2BC will have a look thumbup
