I am sure it's a great car, tested it at release, sounded like a kds toy with battery sound, what a let down, special cars should sound good, this sounds rubbish!

Alot of people comment on the noise but I don't get it. It sound immense in my view especially for a straight 6. I've since put the MPE on as the MPE on the E92 was epic.

oh and if you are one of those pretend petrol heads the MPG is probably twice as good (bad from my POV smile as the car it replaces.

I still think it sounds over-engineered and false. It would sound much better if it sounded like a real sporty Turbo car with a hint of straight six and nice burble, it's trying to be something it isn't and is all the worse for it.

Oh dear.

Is this another typical post, "The new model isn't half as good as the 10-year old version of the same car which just happens to be sitting in my garage....."

Enthusiasts are pretty firmly in the minority when it comes to buying most even "sporting" and "performance" stuff IMO.
Unfortunately, I believe you are correct.

I don't think that's the case at all and I have owned a Z4M/E92 M3 and the noise of both of those never blew me away that much...but they did sound far better than the new M3/M4 and I agree with mwstewart that BMW just haven't got the noise right with the new car.

Sitting at the lights this morning I had Supra pull up beside me same 3.0TT same as the M3 after hearing that (it did have an aftermarket exhaust on) I can't help but think BMW just got the engine note wrong this time round.

No, it's a post about exhaust noise. I didn't say the car was bad. You only have to look underneath and at the chassis design and build to realise its a great car. I just dislike the engineered exhaust noise.

Has anyone compared this to the alpina B3\4 biturbo and the D3\4 biturbo yet? Be interesting to see if the alpina has similar issues with the steering, the noise and power delivery.

Could the power and torque of the D4 be more enjoyable?

When will the manufacturers finally realise only Keyboard warriors & rich people who are more concerned with their image care about ring lap records + outright speed?

I would have thought the emissions regulations would have mean less WEIGHT and focused their efforts on drivability + character, rather than actual pace or trying to iron out the issues turbo charging creates.

This is the first M3 I have no desire to own.
The new E80 M3 does weigh less than the previous car...

Well if you're looking for a sports car you're certainly not going to buy an M3. You might have done that in the 90's, but not today.

The M2 will be, I believe, the real deal, and much closer in spirit to the E36 and E46 we all think about when we read "M3".

Anyone else waiting out for the V8 FORD MUSTANG to land in the UK? sounds a lot more appealing than a M3/M4 personally.

The BOSS Mustang would be ideal, but seems that is not coming to the UK?

What? So anything with more than ~450bhp is simply too fast?? Hangon I better tell Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Noble, Mercedes, etc. etc. that they're doing it wrong.

2. It sounds sh*t. There is no two ways about this; hence BMW desperate attempt at making it sound better in the cabin using speakers.
I don't think it's anything to do with the sound as when you start up an E92 M3 it sounds like somethings fallen apart, I think you'd be surprised how similar the noise levels of the two are. The idea of routing sound into the cabin is to involve the driver more without increasing exhaust noise.

I don't think anyone looking for a sports car would ever have bouht an M3. That's never what they've been about, really.

If the sound created through the speakers is offensive to you simply remove the relevant fuse!

It is not quite as simple as that.

I replaced my E92 V8 M3 with an F80 M3 as I needed 4 doors to make it easier to get my two boys under 3 in the back. I don't understand the noise haters - I love the noise mine makes. It's so much louder than my e92 and reminds me of a group b rally car when I wind the windows down! I do wonder if you people saying it sounds terrible have only listened to one on a YouTube clip and not in real life on full chat!
And in terms of price I dont think its that much different from the E92? My old frozen grey 2010 60 plate with a good spec was £64k new!
My main gripe is the steering on my F80 as it just feels weird to me!
