It is genuinely on my car, and now open to offers as a result of the interest stirred up.

Thanks

There's a romantic Internet age fairy tale going on here... that's just had a twist!

Exciting... Which gallant knight will win the, err, number plate?

You also need to check on the logbook that the number is transferable, as some aren't.

Hmmm, I'm having my Carrera 4 cab rebuilt and am considering ruby stone red for the colour. This may go nice on it....

GOOD POINT RAISED. JUST CHECKED V5. CAN NOT SEE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON IT.

Did you send the OP a pic? I love a happy ending.

I'd want decent money to have my car's history include a change of registration. It has to affect resale value.

It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.

he'll probably offer more than me, as it will look like a standard plate whereas I already have a private plate

Why would putting a different plate on a car affect its value?
Unless the plate put on it was of considerable value and sold with the car, that is the only way a plate will ever effect its value

Seriously? Let's not forget we're talking about a 14yo Freelunch here. £750 on a good day.

You have proof of this do you? It would certainly make a difference to me.

For what reason?

Private plates are so common now, I very much doubt that most people would even bat an eyelid.

Why would it make a difference if it has had a private plate on in the past?

Changes of plate over a vehicle's history make no difference to the value if they are properly recorded and can be traced through the vehicle's history. Any high-end car will probably have half a dozen private plates on it during it's life. (My 944 is on it's fifth numberplate but only third owner, with each owner putting a private plate on it when they bought it and an age-related one for sale.)

Well the originator has made an offer, but was not at an amount to tempt me to sell on. Sorry for that Paul.
If anyone else wants to email me, feel free to do so.

I'd say fair value on this plate would be the base cost of a similar plate, say 250, all transfer fees and costs incurred by the seller including admin fees for insurance if applicable, plus say 200/300 on top for the inconvenience and ballache.

So all in I'm guessing about 650/700 /fagpacket
