I think an important point here is that ( as shown by the other c63 for sale above ) you can have a C63 V8 wagon which will be 98% as much fun for 50% of the £56,000 wanted for the one referred to by the OP.

Why spend £56k on one of these when you can get pretty much the same car for mid £20's..?
Yes, definitely, that and the fact the article is about not being able to afford the £56k example.
I went through some similar thinking before getting my C63 and ended up getting a post-facelift model, where the interior/ICE system in particular is a lot better, along with various other upgrades and a bigger fuel tank (not to be sniffed at). I'm sure that will attract all sorts of derision but since I use it as a daily, it was an important consideration for me, along with the rest of the benefits of a newer car - warranty etc.

I wouldn't be spending 56k on this... I'd slap a deposit down on it and finance it for a year or two.

Such a great looking car smile

Dan, can't man maths somehow make it work - that's the whole point of it!

On another note, would love to one day own something like this for carrying the family and pooch!

Got that but I'd have hoped more than just the move to a turboed V8

It's basically a compilation of all the best bits of the various Performance Packs applied to C63s over the car's evolution. So it's got the SLS internals (stronger crank, lighter pistons, con-rods, etc) and the additional power, the Black Series vented bonnet, same power output as the old CLK63 Black and a few trim bits. Diff is still optional sadly but Merc was good enough to spec it on this particular car!

There's a bit of a timeline and explanation of the various C63 evolutions in our roadtest on the 507 Coupe here. Hope that helps! We've also got a buying guide scheduled for a little later in the year so that'll have a more detailed breakdown of the different specs and models.

Cheers,

Dan

Hand on heart a post-facelift Performance Pack car (which has the SLS internals) with a diff is all you need, though the 507's bonkers top end is very nice on the rare occasions you get to sample it!

You may be disappointed even further then if you start looking for the turbo!

Hi Dan,

I've already been there...my C63 appeared, albeit 3 months after I handed it back to MB, on the MB used site. Within a week it was gone and apparently another PH'er had bought it (although I don't know who).

That being said, apparently it's still SORN according to the DVLA confused

Things must be bad if PH has to try and shift an ex hack C63 for Mercedes, it's a nice car but I'm a bit baffled by the need to write an article about a second hand press car you've already reviewed and written extensively about.

Was it part of the deal to run it in the first place?

It's an interesting ponder about cars, that's all. You don't have to read it!

Yip, he is just writing about how much he misses his old car, nowt wrong with that and it proves that cars like the C63 may not win road tests when new against the likes of the M3, but they seem to work their way into your soul more as an ownership proposition. That's useful information to people on here who are thinking of buying one of these cars!

It could work with man maths. It would help if you had 5/10k to put down straight away.

I've got an RS4 (courtesy car) and its a nice sense of occasion. I love the sound. I bet this C63 is mental.

If I didn't drive 25,000 miles a fking year I'd definitely have a V8 I my life.

So much talk about depreciation. Fun costs money, simple as that. If the fun the car gives you makes it worth what it will cost in depreciation - buy it. If it doesn't, don't.
Personally, I always remember the times I had in the car rather than what it cost me.
Looks quite steep at £56k, I have had my wagon for almost 3 years, it is an edition 125 estate with the performance pack (487 bhp) and carbon nic nacs (from the classifieds this looks fairly rare?) I 'only' paid £58 k for mine new? Prior to my purchase, I agonised for 6 months over the depreciation, should I lease it, fuel economy etc etc. I haven't looked back since, this is the Millennium Falcon for the road.

This car is so much fun that even when fuel was at £ 1.45 litre, I didn't begrudge filling up - I am amazed that with current fuel prices, one of the biggest drawbacks of the car has become significantly less of an issue.

I still recall starting it up 3 weeks after I bought it, unbeknown to me a family was walking past. As the engine fired up, the daughter covered her ears and burst into tears from the sound!

I suspect virtually no one will put down a wad of cash for it, Finance is the only way for a car that depreciates so much.
I paid just over £40k for a brand new C63 Wagon in September with masses of spec inc AMG media, 19"s tints, Harmon Kardon individual paint and more. 7k dep and under £270 pm x24 £33k final. I will prob loose deposit but even if you add it all up It equates to about 6.5k per year and with full warranty and one cheaper service its worth the peace of mind. Hell a Mondeo would depreciate more!! The fuel cost however is a shock after coming from a diesel but I can eek out 26-27mpg with some classical music and careful right foot, If you get the opportunity you only live once. Most probably get a 535d bmw in 2 years time.

It's not too bad when put like that. How did you get it for £40k, though?!

Given what it is costing, don't waste it by driving with a view to mpg. It will save a few hundred a year at most so is irrelevant in the grand scheme of your motoring costs.

10k deposit contribution from Merc and a further £9500 discount from a very nice dealer who went out of there way to build bridges after a previous problem with another car.

I just offered £46K on something advertised at £55K which the owner paid £85K for.

My offer was turned down, but I reckon I was just offering next years price

I think the 507 is going to hold its value better than a standard c63. They are now no longer being sold and I reckon about 200 will be in existence. I decided to sell my Griffith 500 to buy a white 507 coupe seehttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1191651 and I am delighted to have done so. The 507 has approx 3bhp less than the black series but has all the refinements of the standard c63... it is absolutely amazing! I didn't finance mine (to keep the costs down) and I paid £59013 with Harmon Kardon and black 19 wheels. Insurance is £200 a year, mpg has been between 22 and 27 for average driving (18 spirited). My view is this will be a relatively cheap supercar to own . My target for depreciation, insurance and maintenance for 3 years is £500 a month, give or take £10% ... Anyone else care to take a guess on my losses ?
