Gents, if I were to register myself an alias, should I go for 997GT3, or should I go for AMGMAN, how about fezzanutz, the possibilities are endless

Check the IP Addresses.

As I said, you guys win. my car will sell tomorrow, I will restore my Dino, and no doubt someone on here will have a view as to the way I did that too. Ho hum. Dan is right though, these forums were set up so enthusiasts could share knowledge and experience, madmechanics being one of the best websites on the net.

I live near Heathrow, my postcode and mobile number is in the advert, i invited you round to see my car, I really don't know what else I could do. For myself I like to live and let live, there are many cars i hate, but I wouldn't tell the owner, even anonymously.

I didn't start the thread, some guys were ridiculing a builder in Canada because he had made a copy of a Zonda, he did, a carbon copy, and as a result he was torn to shreds, I stupidly said I had made my interpretation, in hindsight I wish I had kept quiet.

I was told by ebay that they were interested in using my car for PR, I put some constraints on their use, but they did it anyway, so i lost there too.

I apologise for losing it earlier, that really is not my style, I have managed internet abuse for far too long and feel ashamed I got sucked in.

there will be some smart arse who disses what I have just written, so be it..

"there will be some smart arse who disses what I have just written, so be it." - May I?

"I was told by ebay that they were interested in using my car for PR" - Thats sounds like total bullst. Similar to what you said about Pagani "giving you thumbs up" when in fact all they said was that they didn't have any panels they could give you.

"madmechanics being one of the best websites on the net. " - That's seriously debatable.

My last point is that I think your Dino actually looks nice, from what I've seen in your video. Please don't ruin it.

Nick the interweb is a cruel place, but it can also be your best mate if you use it properly.

So general opinion has not gone your way, it’s always hard when something you have invested a lot of money and effort in gets pulled apart. But try if you can to take it constructively and your next project will be a lot better.

I stand by the comments I made earlier on both threads, and having made a bunch of mistakes in my early projects feel grateful now that I started this whole car building lark long before the internet was invented. On the flip side if I had the information now freely available on the web back then I would have saved a tonne of money and probably halved the four year build time my first car took

I saw this earlier, it's a hilarious thing to look at! Must be quite terrifying driving it though.

It looks like a supercar for a very eccentric clown.. The comic bubble, General mismatch style and hilarious proportions would suit well.

The most galling thing about this whole situation is the line in the ebay add "my other classic car"..... Presumably insinuating that this is one too, when in actual fact, despite the time, effort and money put into it, it just looks and sounds like a total pile of st.

Well it looks like it has sold for £7100 but to a bidder with 3 pieces of feedback, one of which was negative.

Quick! Report it to ebay for shilling!

More seriously, a lot of respect for actually finishing the job. I lose interest in things that take longer than a few months, let alone years. That said, the quality...isn't the highest I've ever seen. Your next one will be better though.

Hope the sale goes through.

Nick,

I love seeing people having a bash, really PH spirit to build your own car etc, but are you doing this for fun, or as a business? If it's the latter, are you not worried about potential liability here?
It looks like you're offering the design etc as a product, which would presumably class as a business. Meanwhile, Your car seems to use plastic drainpipe as inlet tract, directly above an exhaust - preumably PVC which turns melty just over 115 dgerees. The fuel filler also appears to be directly above an exhaust manifold... If this catches fire, the ply construction will presumably be fun.

If this did happen, could a potential buyer claim not fit for purpose? I'm also pretty sure that selling a car that looks like a pagani zonda s, called a zonda i might flirt ever so slightly with copyright / trademark law?

Rear lights courtesy Zonda, rear mesh courtesy chicken coop!

I can't stop re-reading the advert, awesome. I have actually saved the entire page for future hilarity.

"What is left to do… finish polishing, fit new Lotus Elise screen (which I will supply), connect windscreen wiper, fit horn (supplied) and fit screen washer (not supplied), connect the blower to dash vents. Calibrate speedo. The car could also do with a new battery.. Then take it to your friendly IVA tester."

That's it!

This thread is also hilarious, I have not been so entertained on here for ages. Roll on the next one!

Nick, what's next? A Veyron! Please!

I want to buy that car.

It's the ultimate non pharmaceutical anti-depressant. I could make a fortune just putting it in a clinic in Mayfair.
I have this theory that as the quality of something falls from superlative through to good then mediocre and bad eventually it comes out of the other side and can eventually rise to superlative heights again. A bit like a trip starting with Frank Sinatra through to the Rolling Stones then out on the other side as the Cramps! This is a classic example of something that is so bad it's absolutely brilliant! I wouldn't say I'd want to buy it but it should certainly be on public display somewhere maybe in a museum of deluded hope! It could cure 1000's biggrin

This is the chassis I copied to make the car, the only difference was the roll bar over the cockpit. I removed that when I trimmed the cabin as it took up too much room.

A pretty gracious response.

More gracious than many people would muster had something they'd put so much into been so mercilessly mocked.

Still a rather bizarre undertaking imho, but I doubt my attempt would be much better.

Ofcourse, I simply wouldn't attempt a home brew Zonda, so the fact that mine wouldn't be much better is somewhat irrelevant.

This has got me wondering if anyone has ever put together a properly home brew (ie. no 'kit' commercially available) replica supercar which has been met with a largely positive response? This would exclude all the Lambo/ Ferrari stuff available.

More than you would think.

Just off the top of my head, there was the American guy who built a Lamborghini Countach LP500 in his basement, a guy in New Zealand who built an F40, and there's a Polish fella who had built quite a few including a Mclaren F1.

All of the above were absolute works of art, and in the case of the Countach and the F40, possibly even finished to a higher standard than the original models.

There have been quite a lot more but it's late and I can't be bothered to google them!
