RE: All new Ford GT - Detroit 2015
Discussion
Name is fine for me, there is plenty of GT40 in that car to my eyes. I think it looks very good, if a little long from some angles. A manual and a V8 version would be nice too, but overall I really like the look of this car. Also what a way to do the marketing. Just throw it out there and watch the jaws drop! Not like bloody McLaren doing a crap twitter campaign and drip feed bks just to release a car that looks like a mini 650s that looks like a mini P1 that has a detuned 650s engine and is just as uninspiring to look at/listen to (I assume all of this as I'm sick of waiting for McLaren to actually tell us)
Holy crap! I did not expect that!
Though I prefer the styling of the earlier GT (and original GT40 it was based upon), I love it for several reasons: first, they've dispensed with the usual ridiculous teasers/"spy shots", and press buildup nonsense in favor of simply surprising us (what a novel concept!). Second, no unnecessary, weight-adding hybrid system. With those two points, they seemed to have assuaged PHers two biggest complaints about supercar debuts.
Finally, though I'd have preferred to see a version of the new 5.2L, flat-plane-crank V8 from the GT350, isn't it impressive that this makes 50 more BHP than the old GT with two-fewer cylinders and 1.9 fewer litres of displacement?
I must say I kind of feel bad for Honda, who've arrived with an AWD hybrid supercar several years late to the party. The NSX is no longer a ground-breaking car like the original one was.

Why so??
Ford or Ferrari/Maserati/Lambo/Porsche...the list goes on.Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles. Only the people 'in the know' will respect the car you have bought. The badge is a willy waver. That's why I have an NSX
For the record, this GT makes my juices flow. The new NSX doesn't (much to my annoyance!).

Any dimensions? Will it fit on UK B roads?
Would like to know this as well. The car looks great in my opinion, and the specs sound nice. Shame about the lack of V8 and manual, but seems to be the way of the world at the moment, and as long as it sounds good who cares whats making the noise
But looking at those pics with people in the shot for perspective, the thing looks huge!!

I get that, I don't get badge snobbery, it means nothing in the context of how good or bad a car is. My experience as a Ford GT owner was nothing but positive, bar the few who regard the badge, and by extension, the car, as inferior to the established exotic makers. I have owned them all, Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston, and the GT is probably the most amazing and rewarding of the lot. Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles. And that's where we agree. It's all snobbery my friend. As I said, in this day in age, it's all about 'I drive a Ferrari blah blah blah'. If you've got a Ferrari then fair play, however, do not for one second look down on me for driving a mundane Honda/Ford.thepyrrhonist said:
Just a hint of Lamborghini Asterion, especially in the front quarter view? Perhaps it's the colour...
It's the colour.... They really don't look that similar! I think the new GT is very vulgar, but then so wad the last one. I like what it's supposed to stand for but I'm not sure the new one is of the season ethos of the last one. The article seems to suggest it's a good old fashioned American muscle car, which couldn't be further from the truth!
Designed by a Tasmanian apparently. See we are good are some stuff.

Not convinced by those big aero tunnels up the sides or the styling links to the GT40. Americans will always want a big V8 rather than a turbo V6 and to be honest just reading "V6" makes it sound less worthy than much of the competition.
Good that they've done it but not really sure where it fits.

Stunning. Hopefully better engineered and screwed together better than the last one, lol.
Not sure where you are coming from with this comment. Build and engineering integrity of the GT was immense, and the most reliable car I have ever owned.Dull point I know, but for all those saying it gives 2 fingers to the Italians, does anyone know if this GT will have any luggage space? It seemed a bit of a flaw in the GT-ness of the last GT.
For the avoidance of doubt, I love the looks of this, and have no issues with the badge or the engine configuration.

I find it a really, really nice looking car... stunning! But I can't get over the disappointment that it isn't a V8. If the American's are ditching the V8, where does that leave the V8. Or is it just ford doing political, in that case I always wonder, why with such a top model? Like the potential owners care about the co2 figures for that car...

Probably Ford wanting to pimp their ecoboost engines globally where V8's (sadly) have little appealGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
