Does anyone know if the car has sold? It's got a lot of free promotion on here, so if it doesn't shift it might suggest that the base price point for a tip 996 is actually lower than £7k.

Is the £5k 911 now a reality?

http://www.gumtree.com/p/porsche/porsche-911-996-c...

Granted it's on Gumtree, so the usual to advice to run, don't walk, away may apply, but on paper that's a lot of car for 5 bags of sand...
Haha. Look at the photos.
Sorry, am I missing something? I would agree that it hardly looks mint, but it's a modern 911 for £5k.
Its a fake ad look at the last picure with email same scams going around autotrader
Ah, got you. I did think that Gumtree was asking for trouble, but following on from this thread I thought I'd see how cheap I could find a 996 for. Seems this really was too cheap to be true (note, I had no intention of buying it, it was just an exercise!)
Ad now deleted. *surprised look*

If you're not someone who's too worried about mileage, then this seems an even better buy:

Anyone know more about this car? Seems way too good to be true!

I would say that the ad is missing a 1 in front of the £4,670 which would be more in line with a decent looking 2003 in a good colour combo with sensible miles.

Not sure about the advertised car but I reckon the early 996 3.4 totally standard with 17's and amber indicators in good fettle is a good place to park your money now.
The value's will only go one way and it isn't down

Agree.

I need to hurry up and find a spare £10-12K for a loved example. Tintop rather than targa or convertible ofcourse. Manual box is a must.

Would be tempted to buy a suitably period colour like 'Ocean Jade' too, but suspect this would narrow the market for resale over black/ silver/ dark blue a bit.

Some gnarly interior colours are probably best avoided- I like all of them, by the way. Having never sat in one, Im prepared to be very underwhelmed by interior build quality/ materials.

I'd really prefer a 02> facelift to drive and enjoy (pre-facelift lights are looking less offensive, although still not 'there'), but an early stock 3.4 manual is probably the one that's going to catch us by surprise in the not-too-distant future.

As Ive banged on about too many times now, the IMS scary has been way overstated imho. A look at afew owners clubs has got me wanting a 996 more than an E46 M3 at the £10Kish pricepoint. Foolish, Im sure.

Many specialists seem to think IMS is best left well alone unless its already borking. To buy a normally serviced car, or spend a bit more on one that's had eg. Hartech work done?

I looked at 996s a while back and they are fantastic value. The IMS issue didn't bother me as it fixable. What put me off is the small chance of the bores cracking (Google 'd chunk') and there is no fix for that apart from a full engine rebuild (pretty much the value of the car). It would most definitely be worth waiting for one that has had a Hartech rebuild and paying a few more k for it imo.

Does this come as standard, or is it an expensive option ?
