Very nice, but given how these estates are used, a powerful diesel would seem a better choice as an all-rounder. Can still tack on the AMG pack.
Not everyone wants or has the need for a diesel. Some of us do mileage more befitting of a petrol you know! smile
Absolutely, I refuse to have a diesel and enjoy having a decent petrol engine with at least 6 cylinders. Counts me out of owning any E Class apart from the E63 AMG.

Is it just me that would prefer this as RWD? I've never yet felt the need for 4WD on a road only car.
No, not just you. It would be good if they offered it with both, but BMW don't offer the 335i Touring in X-Drive over here either.

Will we in the UK get the car? - I thought that all Merc 4matics were left hand drive only

Love this, might replace my current C350 Estate (3.5ltr V6). This C450 has lots more power, and more economical, excellent idea.

What a great idea by Mercedes.

Quick - yep
Estate - yep
Petrol yet relatively economical i.e. 30mpg attainable on the motorway - yep
AWD - yep
Bespoke enough to feel special compared with the more common models - yep

100% fabulous.

Can't help think that they've killed off some C-Class AMG business with this though...
Almost definitely my next family wagon!

A 2009 S4 Avant can be had for around £20k while waiting for the Merc to depreciate a bit :-)

I'll be surprised if this model is available over here.

I'm surprised they can do a 4wd (right-hand drive) version of the C-class but not apparently of the E-class (in which you'd have thought there would be more room to accommodate the front drive shaft gubbins).
I'd be interested to know how they've done this - ie have they lashed something up based on the LHD only solution, or has the forward drive section of the gearbox been completely redesigned?

Merc seem to be on form at the moment - where BMW were a decade or two ago. V8 flagship, a quick 6 cylinder petrol model below.
Or you've got old and entered their target market! ;-)

I really like this too - so clearly I am closer to 40 than I think!

It will slot into the existing Mercedes line-up between the most powerful of the existing C-class models on offer in the UK, the C250 Bluetec Hybrid, and soon-to-be-launched Mercedes-AMG C63
Usual accuracy from Autocar. C250 is the diesel. C300 is the Diesel/Electric Hybrid

I'm dubious about that - they can't do AWD on RHD cars. Maybe that's been fixed with the new 9 speed box - they're talking about the mid-size SUV (GLK, to become GLC) coming here in 2016.

Also a little disappointed my local dealer (Brooklands) hadn't got the heads up on this a couple of months ago as I may well have waited. I test drove a second hand C63 507 estate and went back to buy a week later but it had gone :-(

I just took delivery of a 335Xd touring which is a far more sensible (boring) choice and still an epic car in many ways (but not petrol), I drive to the Alps several times a year winter and summer and 4Wd is very appealing, I have never gelled with Audi unfortunately.

There was no news of any 4WD C class coming to the UK until now or have I actually missed something?

They managed it with the A45 and CLA45 although on a different platform. Ive requested further information from my dealer who had no idea about the car, suprise suprise. They have emailed MBUK so will post up the findings as soon as they get back to me.

That's true - they use a different sort of box though. Maybe that can be used on bigger vehicles?

Fingers crossed as this would be my new family weapon of choice. I dont know much about the inner workings, but I am sure I did read that the new C platform would offer 4 matic models eventually. Ill try and dig out the article.

Local dealer knows nothing about the C450, but said he doubted it would be released by the summer, but as he knows nothing about it, im not sure how he has made that assumption. I also spoke to MB UK who know nothing about it, and told me to just keep and eye out on the future cars section on the MB webpage. Joy!

Out of interest, what mpg do you get out of the C350? Is it a 268bhp model or the later 301bhp model? Only, the later is supposed to get a 'book' of 38mpg (I think I even remember seeing 40mpg combined on the Merc website when the car was available). The earlier engine is only 'book' 28mpg...

Will there be a plain C450 estate available, i.e. without all the AMG Sport cosmetic gubbins, kerb-scraping wheels and rubber band tyres?
Are plain Mercs called SE now?
Well this appears to add a new category, so list would be:
SE
Sport
AMG Line
-> AMG Sport

Plus the Mercedes-AMG C63

By default you get 16" wheels in the SE, 17" in the Sport and 18" in the AMG Line.
Blimey, you mean its possible to buy a C Class *without* it being plastered with AMG badges? I don't believe you.....

Wow! Doesn't it inspire you with confidence when even the importer doesn't know what cars they will be selling in the future. Maybe put someone who's interested in the job and cars in charge instead?
