@many other PHers here.

when you get a new laptop do you keep on all the rubbish software you get?
when you get a phone do you just stick with the preinstalled apps and never get any more?
would you never improve your house or garden.

No of course not, so why the pompous and pathetic attitude to car modification?!?
No I don't, but nor do I cut another set of USB ports in the opposite side to make it symmetrical and run the wiring underneath so I can't get the covers back on.

Well, I'd live with it and use the £150 refund to take the Mrs out for a slap up meal.

What a bunch of absolute s we have on Pistonheads these days.
On the money.
+1

Cracking riposte OP.

Pistonheads is just like any social media site, it has a huge amount of bullies/trolls just looking for posts to criticise. Only in this instance I feel the OP was able to successfully turn the tables.

OP, did you want the exhaust just for looks? If so why not just have a dummy type exhaust welded on?

You got a decent result getting £150 back, but had it been me personally I wouldn't have taken the car back if I wasn't happy and I'd have kicked up a fuss before paying, as opposed to taking the car the way you did and then having to chase them (and being ignored) by phone.

I had a similar thing happen with Top Gear in St Albans, the quality of the exhaust they did for me was absolutely shocking and I let them know, but initially was getting fobbed off, until I created a bit of a scene.

Now before anyone pulls me up on "making a scene", my usual approach is calm and polite when I have any issues with something, however over time frustration kicks in and unfortunately a "scene" is sometimes the only thing that gets a result.

Ultimately if I'm not happy with something a garage does I certainly won't pay and take the car off their premises, and then try and highlight any issues. I'd do it there and then. Although in your case you've reached a resolution now so the above is irrelevant.

Glad to hear of your good result titansport, and in all honesty it looks pretty good in those latest pictures you've posted. OK they didn't do the tidiest job underneath, and definitely closer to a £150 job than £300, but i can see what you were aiming for smile I hope you decide to keep it, or get it re-done to your liking at another place!
Shame you have had a rather frosty reception on here, all because you wanted to put your own touch to your car. It's why I don't post much, I usually always get flamed or called up on what I type no matter how innocent it is.
It looks like a nice car, enjoy smile

To me the OEM single pipe looks 'aftermarket' as it is so another on the other side may help balance things up.

Unfortunately, looking at what has been posted people naturally assume you are trying to make it look something it isn't by removing the 420d badges and fitting another exhaust pipe so it looks more like a 435d or something. I know this wasn't the case but it's a point of common refferal on PH and it's natural to assume I guess.

It's good that you got a partial refund and if you can live with the current job then fine but if you can't then it's a different story.

I can't tell but have they cut the diffuser to match the left?

Perhaps you've been slapped about by her indoors so you struggle to though?

silly immature child though that cannot grasp sociology. Go read a book.

You’re an idiot Frazer and clearly lack intellect.

Grow up a little chump.

You’re still mong though.

Do you not get out much? World scare you?

I’d rather my car impressed your wife/girlfriend- which I suspect it would.

you’re a bitter little chap. Aren’t you. Why? Jealous perhaps?

Very sad people. Life must be very hard for them as some are clearly troubled.

world has some tts, fortunately they are in the minority. Tends to come down to resentment, bitterness and primarily jealousy.

I have no doubt whatsoever those people have particularly sad and miserable existences.

your comments are immature and actually quite pathetic. You clearly have difficulties linking aspects of life in your little minds so imagine life is a struggle. Probably filled with hate.

I feel sorry for some of those who have commented above as life must be a very dark place for you. You know who you are.

Special “shout out” to “Taz”, Laura’s bh, Gazza and Gary Glitter- something struck me with those “names”- they all refer to others with “issues” of some sort and clearly so do the posters. Some troubled, some bitter and most problematic. Shame.

Life can be hard chaps but carry on like that and it will get worse. Much worse. A very dark place to be.
I'm glad you got that off your chest. Trying to make things personal is a great way to make those nasty people who criticised your exhaust pipe regret their comments hehe

Were the exhaust tips ever straightened out? They do make the car look like a wheelbarrow in the first picture.

Christ people on here can be aholes can't they? The guy isn't trying to pretend it's an M4 - all the nasty comments about him not being able to afford the car he really wants just aren't relevant to the topic and aren't needed.
If you take a poverty spec engine (of any car at all) and then add mods which are purely cosmetic to try and make it look like something from higher up the range, its inevitable that a lot of the feedback is not going to be positive. It would just have been more preferable if people could have posted that negative criticism in a politer manner laugh

Personally I wouldn't be impressed with 50% refund on a £500 cosmetic upgrade that I wasn't happy with! Fair enough if its a £2000 snotter but this is a £40k car!

@mwstewert- unfortunately not seen any F series 335/435 back boxes go across eBay yet and cannot justify £700 at the dealers for a new one.
Oh wait, no I don't.

Summed up perfectly. A very large clique tongueing each other and woe betide anyone not quite 'fitting in'or having an opinion of their own. That list of aholes in your reply OP is just a very small percentage sadly.
BTW- ref your mod, not what i would do personally but live and let live, its yours, you do whatever you like to it..fk what others think..

@Zeduffman- it’s a £41,000'ish car. But close.
I went with the cheapest 420d on the BMW website. So you spent £41,000 on a 2.0 diesel and slashed its value considerably by crudely bolting a pipe onto it. And then you try to patronise the people taking the piss. Good going.
I think the OP has made it clear that a 420d is what HE wanted, maybe not what you would want, and maybe he couldn't give two flying f*cks about modifying his car and sweating over the value he may have lost (or increased it by).

I've always slightly modified my cars and couldn't care less about the resale value, I buy the car I want and just not worry. Life is too short to worry about getting £500 quid less in a trade in.

He's got a point. If OP bought a BMW back box, it'd have been a Lott more nicer. The whole "bodge a brand new car" thing is ridiculous.
He didn't bodge it though did he, he paid somebody to do what he thought would be a proper job. So it turned out crap, big deal, he's getting it sorted.

@terence- No bud. Car has enough M badge. 4x wheels, 2x side, 1x steering wheel and 2x door inserts. I’d rather my car impressed your wife/girlfriend- which I suspect it would. Also, yes my mates like my car:
(For the OP)

You suspect wrongly , my wife hates BMs especialy the image they project these days!
Myself, I drive M3s as part of earning a living (amongst other much more exotic cars) so have no desire to own one, my daily driver has in excess of 300 bhp so is quite sufficient thanks.
As far as your 'mods ' go, have you not read the "Why do people stick Mbadges to stardard cars"? Might prove enlightening.]

Couldn't see the photos yesterday as I was at work, but yeah that does indeed look shocking.

I'd have probably done same as the OP though as I sometimes feel a tit in such situations, wondering is it my fault for not expecting this to happen?!
