Isn't this missing the other 4 pistons?
They only came with 4.

I think he was joshing that perhaps the V8tt would be the one to go for. I personally would have a GT3.

I really like that S1. Looks great value. As much as I like all Exiges, I always end up thinking that when it came to actually stumping up the cash, I would choose a Honda S1 Elise instead. But I would love a standard S1 Exige as well... And so the circle goes.

Food for thought - the 997 fits in a small garage, although you may find yourself doing Elise moves to get in and out. So it might depend on your size and tolerance. Mine is in a tiny lockup that means I can only get in and out with the window down and the door resting on the (padded) wall. It doesn't bother me though, and now that I think about it, an Elise's doors and sills would probably not make the process any easier even though it is narrower than the Porsche. I think I used to have to do similar thing with my old Elise in a garage wider than the Porsche's!

Also, costs of GT3 steel brakes can now be done for about £1000 all round for discs and pads. Unless you are doing 10+ track days per year (when the big money brake kits may be better value), that takes a big chunk out of the consumables costs of tracking GT3s. smile

Is it true that the best part of car ownership is the researching and choosing and generally spending your time (rather than your money) in the classifieds?

I can't decide what I want... weekend hoon mobile which can be driven to a track, perform well, and driven home. Less than 1200kg. Up to £40k if necessary. Needs to be able to live outside, OR be small enough to fit in a council garage.

Started with 997 GT3, then thought too heavy, too much car on track for me right now. So thought S2 Exige S 220/240. Have driven one on circuit and loved it. There's not too many around, and, amazingly for such a track-focussed car, none of them seem to have harnesses or seats with harness holes.

Then I found this - surely just as quick but prettier and 10k rev limit, £10k cheaper (ok will be older and scruffier but so what)

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...

Then somehow I started reading all the reviews of the original Elise, and thinking how sad that I never had the means at the time to even consider one, and how pretty they are compared to the more aggressive S2.

Which led me to this old nail but something in the ad feels good..

Now confused.com. Think I'll go and ride my bike and then have a cup of tea in the camper van.

Spot on Joel. That's similar to the mental route I've been down so many times. I agree with everything you've written, and I think that silver Elise is spot on. If I had another parking space (and time for a 2 seater car), that just looks perfect. £10k, scruffy, but with a few decent upgrades underneath.

For now, for me, though, the anticipation of getting an Integrale (4 seats so a bit more family friendly!) in a few weeks is keeping me going!

Does anyone know much about Porsche brake disks? Have a huge pair of these believed to be from a Gt3? Part number shown but I can't trace it.

He saves the day, and then, just like that, vanishes, polo shirt and iron in hand.

Still in a quandary. I need a one-car solution that we can fit the sprog into on occasion (we have Mrs G's e61 for proper family duties), which has a sense of occasion, provides me with some entertainment, and just about ticks the "suit & tie" test for work.

Option 1: keep the Alpina e39 and fit a LSD. It's just not quite entertaining enough though. Massively competent, lovely to drive, but lacks a certain something.

Option 2: buy another M3.

Option 3: buy something else. Suggestions with a £25k ceiling?

I quite like this:

But it feels a bit pricey.

So to clarify;

Max budget £25k
4 seater/2+2
Not a daily driver
Road usage only

Is a 997 practical enough? A 2S is a fantastic bit of kit imho; properly quick, feel special, usable, pass the suit & tie test but not sure if rear seats are big enough for what you need Grubes?

If you already have an estate then I don't see the point in getting another estate or saloon.
