Still in a quandary. I need a one-car solution that we can fit the sprog into on occasion (we have Mrs G's e61 for proper family duties), which has a sense of occasion, provides me with some entertainment, and just about ticks the "suit & tie" test for work.

Option 1: keep the Alpina e39 and fit a LSD. It's just not quite entertaining enough though. Massively competent, lovely to drive, but lacks a certain something.

Option 2: buy another M3.

Option 3: buy something else. Suggestions with a £25k ceiling?

I've always rather liked the Vantages that I have driven/sold. Special cabin feel, great noise and a great place to cover big journeys.

Not fast per se and gearlever is in the wrong place but I would suffer that.

My issue with them is that they don't feel like VFM as an ownership proposition.

Shirley that and the Cerbera fail the "suit and tie" test for work though? Turning up in them would definitely poke a few clients/suppliers eyes out. smile

Mind you, the whole idea of a tie is very lawyerish. wink

DB9 from 30, so they could be phased in before long.

"Ex-track day car reflected in price" - 80k and £27k? Hardly.

I don't wear a tie so hard for me to attest to the suit & tie argument.

Do clients sit waiting at the office window like a child waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve to see what car their next appointment turns up in?

That.

ETA - for my intended usage of everyday car, doing about 12k or so miles per year.

Not as unusual as it sounds..!
Or they ask the receptionist to see what car you get into when you leave.

In that case I'd spend £20k on a car I actually want (rather than what they want me to arrive in) and that change on;

Grubes, does that F250 pass the suit and tie test?

Loads of room for luggage.

Thanks chaps! I've just got back from the pub, eager to see the response, and you really haven't disappointed.

Taking the responses in order...

911 - Really tempting. The bore-scoring / IMS / whatever-it-is scare stories put me off a bit. Should they?? I suspect getting the baby (and baby seat) into the back would be a nuisance. Definitely worth exploring.

RS4 - JC, that's lovely. Great colour. To be honest, though, I fear they just feel a bit too planted and competent. I think I want something a bit more agile / dynamic.

Olly - the e61 works just great for Mrs G. It was cheap as chips (handy coz she occasionally drives it into things), it's just past its MOT, the autobox and super-light steering make it great for her around London, and she's grown weirdly attached to it. It just doesn't make sense to get rid of it.

E90 M3 - that's a great find!! I think these work best with DCT, but I wouldn't discount a manual. And that looks conspicuously good value with an AUC warranty. Great find!! thumbup

Cerbera - hmmm... not very me.

Flangio - e28 M5... bugger off. hehe

Aston - Dan makes a good point about VFM. The running costs put me off. Looks ace, sounds ace. Ultimately doesn't pass the Baby Grubes test.

928 - I'd love one as part of a 5-car garage, but it's not an only-car solution (to my mind, at least).

I agree. Too expensive though?

If it was manual, it would be perfect.

Stick one of these on it and you can have 600+bhp of dynamic. evilbiggrinyes
