It's 3k. It's a 25yr old car. Does the moon and back matter? This surely has to be bottom of the cycle time and if kept loom at a sympathetic refresh in next 5 yrs. A lot of perishables will need doing anyway. I'm seriously tempted. If I leave it wil Sarah during the week for her to tootle to work in, the wife might even forgive me on this one Besides Bella and the doggies can be re-used again!
There's been loads of R129 purchases in the barge thread, so lots of info on what to look for.Looks decent to me, it's been around for a while though so I'd probably avoid it if concerned about resale.

What do we think? Tempted as both a summer snotter and also to pick it up cheap and keep.

As I think Woody said, get over to the 1-5 thread for the real int on these; there are quite a few posters with them, and some real marque geeks.
At that price I'm not sure you can go wrong. It's the right engine, decent - albeit generic - colours, and as long as the roof works (check, check, and check again) and the thick floor carpets aren't sodden, I'd say go for it. Long ownership, and high mileage is generally a good thing with these - many were second or third cars and it's the lack of use that screws them.
Get them to stick a new MOT on it, offer 3 grand and I reckon your money will be very safe in that. I'm biased because I have one and am in danger of becoming one of the marque geeks, but they are terrific cars and very easy to live with.
Edited for gratuitous picture whoring of mine.

Ah Mon President! How's the Jolly Green Giant going?
Hi Grubes - jolly well thanks! Your BMWs (x2!); hopefully all tickety boo? I am seriously thinking of selling the 124 cabrio though - a posting in the summer means a move to a smaller house with limited garaging. It's a wonderful thing, but with a brand new MOT and the summer coming it's probably a sensible time to get on with it.

Merveilleux.
If a 605 V6-24 ever came up for sale I'd be on it like a shot. Sadly, seemingly extinct.

I don't know whether this would be seen as a bit contrived, but I bloody love it.

Chaps, if anyone has a mo, could they take a quick look at my Fabia ad in the classifieds and critique? Anything need adding/removing?
Much appreciated.

Firstly I'd pop it on eBay classifieds and Autotrader.
Secondly pictures are a bit rubbish. Don't shoot towards the sun, move the car off the drive and remove the shot of it looking dirty. There's about 3 shots of the sill for no reason when I don't think ti needs any.
I'd lead with the details bullet pointed.
One owner
86k miles
Full stamped service history
Just serviced- Date- cost
MOT
HPI clear
Factory standard
Then the chat, talk about the lack of dings and scrapes and that there is no rust or dodgy repairs and the seats are immaculate etc and the history details.

Good points - though I thought there was 1 sill shot, and 2 showing the carpet and seats, with and without the mat fitted. Too much?
I think the carpets and mats can be mentioned but don't really need specific shots. The big sell to me is the condition of the seats and how clean/unworn that white cloth is. I'd take a shot towards the front seats and one from the passenger side clearly showing the driver's bolster, one of the dash/carpets from the rear seats and one of the rear seats and leave it at that for the interiorDJRC said:

I really want someone to go and see this (I'm not nearby). Im tempted:

The issue is that while that could be a fantastic car and these mercs are built to do many times these miles without worry, if you ever want to sell it on again you need a buyer who can see that. And there are lower mile examples for a few £k more.
