wow.

Dropped a buddy off at Farnborough station yesterday. There are always nice cars in the 'premium' parking bit but yesterday the standout car was an early E-type in dark grey.

In other news, 'launched' the golf last night.

Good party trick.
What's the 0-60 with an R?
fast. not sure of the figures but no doubt hampered by needing 3rd to reach 60.
Never understood this. Why not make 2nd a 65mph gear on cars that are able to pull it? My 335i hits 70 in 2nd just before the limiter. Perfect for a quick(ish) 0-60.

Loon, what's the going rate for a Vantage Zagato? 200 odd?

Was flicking through an old C&SC from 2008 and there are two advertised, one with 7000 miles, at 59k each.

This was being advertised by the same dealer who has it now back then, and has been every month since.

It was 18k then.

Doubling the price seems an odd marketing move for something you haven't been able to shift in 8 years..

Because choosing gear ratios based on a vanity number is fking stupid?

the Mondial has reappeared. Pretty rad way to spend 15 bags.

The older they get, the better they look.

In my experience is certainly not the latter. Could well be for the numpties in Brussels who are concerned about a bit of cO2. Whilst we're at it, my bike does 103mph in first. Great for the pub eh Woody?! wink

Along with pillbox glasshouses, rubber band tyres, too-high waistlines, too-big wheels, crap "leather", and hateful instrumentation, too-tall gear ratios are one of the big sins of modern motoring.

I had a manual Boxster Spyder - wonderful car, great chassis, superb engine, amazing brakes, lovely mini-CGT looks... and yet the car was ruined by the fact that you just couldn't wring its neck on a B-road. The top of 2nd was over 80mph. Where do you go from there, other than prison?

I have an Elise S1 with a CR box now*. Much better.

Joel

  • and 180bhp on throttle bodies. Might actually be slightly overpowered!

Elise S1 with c/r 'box is a great little package.

Also another reason why I loved my Superlights; that 6 spd box/ratios was just perfection.

You've probably seen this footage of the Goodwood classic 911 race already, but If you haven't it's the 'John alteringham' race on this page, and is a real show https://grrc.goodwood.com/members-meeting-73/73mm-...

It might be that this number of classic Porsche on track together, and the close racing, show why these cars demand such s following, or it's a very clever way of keeping values up.

Whatever, I loved watching it.

Here's a brief lesson in E28 M5 values.

::26th October 2014::

£15k in 6 months. Nice work if you can get it.
It'll be interesting to see whether he gets what he wants for it. But asking prices do seem to have leapt circa 25% since I sold mine banghead

In fairness to Andy Walker, there are few people I'd rather buy a car from. And he made a spectacularly good job of the black e28 with red leather that he renovated, so I'd trust him to have done a proper job on this silver one.

ETA: And I remember thinking back in October that someone had got a bit of a steal, given the limited amount of work that appeared to need doing...

Edited by Gruber on Thursday 16th April 11:58
There are a few E28 M5's with big price tags and none are selling. I think we have hit a plateau for the forseeable future.

On the contrary Gruber, I saw the the macau car with red leather that Andy Walker restored and it was terrible, some parts looked like a 5 year old child had done the work.

The silver E28 M5 in question is a pup and best avoided at that price.
