One of these Shirley.

The CVH in the MK2 is something of a wheezy, hateful thing. At least the crossflow in the Mk1 is receptive to a tweak or two. smile

My brother got one for his girlfriend and they both love it (std bhp not 190). My chum sold this one a while back which I was rather tempted with, it just looked so right;

Can't remember the last time I saw a Tipo let alone a SEDICIVALVOLE. These always got brilliant reviews by the likes of Performance Car magazine at the time;

It's a shame they could never come from Toyota with that engine.

One that looks like my pic above with 190bhp and a couple of tweaks here and there would be a cracking little package and cost peanuts to run too. yes

I always remember the road tests of the time favouring these. I guess it was of the era:

Escort RS2000 MKV
Citroen ZX Volcane
Renault 19 16v
Peugeot 306 XSI (I think GTI-6 came later)
Golf GTI MKV

There was also a 306 S16 back then, and don't forget the Mk3 Astra GSi and Honda Civic VTi

I always loved those Renault 19s, even though they were down on power against the competition. 13bhp was a big deficit back then, when everyone else was tooling up with at least 150 biggrin

I very nearly bought a GRANTURISMO back in the day, simply because it had a Granturismo badge on the back, and it was my favourite Playstation game by a long distance.

I should have remembered that one as there was a 145 hanging about at the family home for years. Never liked it much myself, bloody awful driving position

I forgot about the Rover 220GTi too.

318ti was along in '94 too, just in time to see insurance/crims kill off all the other hot hatches
