Yellow Cinquecentos have been forever ruined. The jokes would never end.Went to a car show this afternoon near Kendal and this was best in show for me. The guy's dad bought it in '73 and when he went to part exchange it in '78 he was offered so little he said if I'm going to give it away, it'll be to my own son.
So, this guy says I'm only driving it if I can make a few changes and this is how it stands him today. Never restored but pretty much every nut and bolt changed since then. Wheels, flares and BRG paint have been in since '79 I think he said.
Engine is a more modern jaguar straight 6 running 3 twin webbers.
Love a car with a story

A 996T crawled past the house to turn round yesterday, with a fruity enough exhaust that I was looking out for something more exciting. First time I've heard one sound good.
There's a couple round the corner from me here, one is dark blue with a rorty exhaust and it does sound good L100NYY said:
That is a great story and agreed on loving cars with a back story
Not sure about the double sunroof arrangement though
I never noticed that! I think it might be a trick of the photo that makes them look squiffy though seeing as I didn't notice them-though I guess it certainly let some light into the beautifully trimmed tan interior. Not sure about the double sunroof arrangement though
Another stunner was an Ascona 400 with red top, owner reckoned he'd got it down to sub ton weight and it looked lovely. No Morgans at the show unfortunately as I want to try out plus4 for size so we called in at a local dealer on the way home and sat in an aeromax. Jeez, this is the first car I'd seriously re-mortgage the house for!
Mentioned it in the Barge thread, but bought my first Jag the other day.
I'm on a car buying ban at the moment, but really couldn't help myself with this one. One owner, low mileage XJ6, purchased locally from a chap who turned out to be my old history teacher. Under a bag. Lovely thing to drive. I'm really rather taken with it.
We'll be adding around 1000 miles to the odo this week with a family holiday to Devon. I've put some spanners and zip ties in the bread knife's suitcase, just in case. Wish me luck!

That looks fantastic and a bargain too. If my experience of XJ6 ownership is anything to go by, I'd leave the spanners at home and if you're lucky a bit less weight might slightly improve the economy!I'm on a car buying ban at the moment, but really couldn't help myself with this one. Cheers chaps.
As per usual, I did my research after purchase: seems the straight 6 is probably the pick of the bunch in terms of durability, and I have to say it's a far nicer thing to drive than my W124 ever was. Has a lovely old-skool feel from behind the wheel, but with modern levels of serenity and hush.
Beards: the blue pinstripe running along the flanks appears to be hand painted- I really, really hope this is true?

I want this so much I could cry: "A classic, super-low mileage, original, perfect NSX. Berlina black with black leather. Manual, non-PAS" http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C615688
£50k doesn't seem outrageous for 7k kms.

Love it. I've always had a soft spot for MGBGTs, and I love the "Sebring" look. Tasty. And <£6k, too.olly755 said:

Good effort - looks like a great car, and I don't think you can beat an XJ - classy and effortless. And if you're going to break a car-buying ban, then this is a good way to do it!!!I'm on a car buying ban at the moment, but really couldn't help myself with this one. I still remember my first drive of an XJ6 - it was a nasty 2.9 poverty spec, but I was only 17 and thought I'd arrived! It was the first ever auto I'd driven, too, and I was really nervous that it would stall when I took my foot off the brake!! I remember holding my left foot on the brake and right on the accelerator and giving it a bit of gas before I dared to take my foot off the brake. I also remember Dad telling me that maybe I should save the left-foot braking for more advanced manoeuvres!!!
