By the way, the dealer has gone quiet on that Cat D elise 160 from a few pages back. As time passes, I'm also starting to think that if I go down the Elise route, a good 160 is the way to go, so I think I've mentally moved on from the cat D "bargain".
Also consider an s1 111s. A little less peak power and perhaps less instantly attractive (not as low, I think?) but a very well-behaved engine compared to the 160.rejn said:

This looks well.
A good 16v is the Mk3 of choice IMO. Never really liked the VR6 to drive despite the rather sonorous donkey.
Wonder how well it would drive these days?
I really quite fancy a Mk3 gti as a runabout. I had a (very!) cheap 16v a few years back and it was a complete dog. But I'm pretty sure that was the result of neglect rather than deficiencies with the car per se. A good 16v is the Mk3 of choice IMO. Never really liked the VR6 to drive despite the rather sonorous donkey.

Love this short chassis special Bentley, it's like a pre-war Caterham

Surprisingly purposeful. The 190 engine does make them a lot more appealing, presume it's a fairly simple swap?
From what I've read, relatively so, as far as engine swaps go anyway. Chucking a V6 can be more problematic. L100NYY said:
