the rise in porsche values has been crazy.
4yrs ago i was >this< close to buying a mint midnight blue 964 for the equivalent of £12k. still kicking myself over that. i then looked at importing a pre-73 from the states and saw a few good examples for under $25k but ultimately decided to wait.
big mistake. those same cars are now $60k+ and makes it a completely different proposition. an early 911 is a dream car for me, but the values are such that i don't think it'll ever happen.

"there was a red Mondial coupe off to the left."
Not me.
I did wonder how you were getting on with yours when I saw it!Not me.
Integrale is fun, though.
Despite having the most obvious oil leaks fixed, it still leaks a bit (not entirely surprising, I guess).
And if you fill it too full with petrol (anything over about 3/4), it likes to have a little wee, too.
Oh and both back wheel arches are starting to bubble.
Otherwise it's a cracking car. The wife and kids love it, too, so we've had a couple of fun family days out!

Sure, but I took the whole family -4 up - for the first time ever in my 1993 928 GTS Manuel. And there was me grining like a cheshire cat. My 5yrs old girl loved the rumble, my 18mths old boy loved the pop-up headlights, my wife loved the acres of glass relative to modern coupes and the fact that it looks like nothing else on the road. Considering it cost me net £9k years ago and that I should easily achieve £40k today, I should sell it and laugh my way to the bank. But then replace it with what - V10 M6? The 928 is analogue enough to keep me happy, yet is modern enough not to make me buy a modern car. Aston Martin DB9s are cramped in comparison and I would want a Spanish one. Jaguar XKRs are crap dynamically. Already have a GT3, so no 911 itch to scratch...
So part of your theory is true, but I also think there are less cars out there for sale, because of people like me - honestly, new cars do nothing for me. Latest and greatest - spent 2hrs hooning around in a 991 Turbo S. Wow,wow, wow it is fast. Yet it reminded me of my old E61 M5 and not of my Mk1 GT3 CS which I stepped out of. So, "speculators" on one side and then luddites like me not selling is creating the perfect storm. Or perhaps I am talking tosh.

I was being a bit disingenuous when I talked about "why I would not sell" - besides loving the car, it is in the Human nature to fear missing out on something i.e greed. All of us remember the times when 964RS were struggling at £20k or in my case a mint E28 M5 at 95k miles for £6k. I guess some enthusiasts are also fearing of selling their car for X, only to see it at 1.5X in another 18mths?I just think that price rises are driven by a combination of factors, not just sheer speculation. Btw, I think we are in a new economic paradigm, which can continue for a while, since nobody actually knows what it is. But one thing is clear - the World is observing wealth creation on an unprecedented scale. It is much easier to make money today than 25yrs ago. It needs to go somewhere, hence some of it trickling into rusty M3s, 964s or average Prancing Donkeys...
You're going to be quite the cat about town in your cabri-oh-lay.
Also, in this month's rag: an article on the Renault 16. Funnily enough I was looking at these on sunday after watching 'The Connection' which I highly recommend for both car props and an actual excellent film.
Also also, whilst watching a young moped pilot encourage all sorts of exotics to spin their wheels when he wasn't trying to spin his or drag his centre stand to create a small flurry of sparks at Arnarge a week or so ago, it was noted by myself and Dan that some of the most exiting cars to see were not exclusively an orange Renault 12, but that and all the other old French stuff that you just saw bimbling about.
As the French probably don't say, 'Happy days'

I think £6k might see a deal, but 5 would be be odds-on to get a punch in the face.
