I don't know about that... a 2.2S was the top of the range when it was new, had an engine that revved happily to 7,000rpm and was basically handbuilt. The Escort was never that good even when it was brand new, and was only ever a parts-bin warmed-over take on one of the most common cars ever made at the time.
