Thankyou very much everyone for the posts on the Boxster - very useful indeed. It seems like this could be a sensible enough option. The 2.5 would be sufficient for me to start with at 200bhp - there is a far better choice of them available at around the 5k mark with reasonable miles on them, or so it seems to me. Sorry Oa and CDG.....
Built 1990. 2.0e
Shipped to Tokyo in 1991
Re-imported to UK in 2007
I bought(£1.5K!!!) and drove out to Northern Italy in 2009 where it resides. Starts on the nail after 6 months dormancy. Every time.
67K on the clock, Full leather, heated seats, air-con, sunroof....not a spot of rust.
I keep thinking 'sell it, take 964!' .....but I just can't. Mrs A finds it a gentle and easy drive on the tight roads.

I do need to get myself in one.
I have been using the SL as a runabout at work (thus keeping it in covered parking) - the MPG on lots of short trips with the odd blast down some local lanes is highly comical - I think the last tank has gone at about 10-12 mpg!
